Launching a New Era of Surgical Collaboration in Sri Lanka 🌍 We are proud to kick off the Digital Telementoring Demonstration Project in Sri Lanka, marking a significant milestone in advancing surgical training through remote collaboration. Supported by Rods&Cones and co-sponsored by the Dutch Government, this initiative aims to revolutionize healthcare by enhancing real-time surgical training and mentorship using smart surgery glasses and our remote assistance platform. At the event, held at the The College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka, we had the honor of welcoming key stakeholders, including Prof. Mohan de Silva, Professor Tan Arulampalam and Prof. Bawantha Gamage, as well as Iwan Rutjens, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. We also saw a successful livestream surgery conducted by Prof. Dr. Richard van Hillegersberg from Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, demonstrating the power of technology to bridge distances in surgical education. With our Hub-and-Spoke model, this project will connect hospitals across Sri Lanka, providing surgeons in both urban and remote settings with real-time guidance and access to specialized expertise, ensuring better patient outcomes. After the kick-off, the team immediately put words into action, with the first remote connection at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital - Kalubowila and Prof. Bawantha supporting remotely—demonstrating the impact of this initiative from day one.
