Metal additive manufacturing (MAM) is a rapidly evolving field that enables the efficient production of metal parts with complex geometries. It involves various processes and parameters that influence the properties of printed metallic parts. Learning about filament-based metal 3D printing, debinding, sintering, and post-processing can provide a good foundation. Additionally, understanding the benefits, such as cost and material savings, is crucial.
Unpacking process of 42 metal 3D printed slider trolleys 🤗 The slider trolley is part of our Case Study with INDEX-Werke GmbH & Co. KG. Back then it was optimized for metal additive manufacturing to save time, material and therefore costs. Additive manufacturing for valves! Also, additive at its most powerful: solving a problem we had almost given up on solving. Cavitation in pipes downstream from control valves is a problem many industrial facilities have learned to live with. They replace pipes affected by it. The solution would involve dividing the flow through the valve into scores or hundreds of parallel streams. The fitting that could do this inside the valve was too complex to produce effectively, until now. Emerson Automation Solutions makes its Fisher Cavitrol Hex ball valve trim through laser powder bed fusion. Problem solved: Cavitation has been addressed in 600 applications and counting. Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/dX7KBYyq Do you have a cool, problem solving metal part that uses #additivemanufacturing? Talk to Akhani 3D to get your part printed ... https://lnkd.in/daAgMia3

Check out this semi-open impeller being #3Dprinted by Meltio! Semi-open impellers balance the characteristics of open and closed impellers, and are ideal for medium-sized pumps handling soft solids. A part like this could be prone to cracking, but according to Meltio, precise control over the heat-affected zone while printing mitigates thermal stress and reduces the probability of cracks. Zecher anilox sleeves - a lightweight with durability, precision and reliability 🚀 Due to the lightweight aluminum body, the sleeves are significantly lighter than conventional anilox rollers. This makes handling easier, reduces set-up times and enables a faster response to printing requirements. However, proper handling is essential in order to avoid damage. For example, improper handling can quickly lead to damage, including chipping of the sensitive ceramic layer. Likewise, very tight tolerances are required for permanently good mounting and dismounting behavior and a secure fit on the air mandrel. 👉 But no worries, we got you covered and share important information with you on how to clean and care anilox sleeves: https://zurl.co/RLtp #zecher #aniloxrollers #sleeves #handling #cleanandcare

In my second "snippet" of things we do that we're less well known for, is #3dprinting #peek. Most of our customers are working with glassfibre and #carbonfibre, but printing PEEK eliminates moulding costs and provides a lightweight custom part that excels in mechanical strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact strength, as well as being highly heat and chemical resistant. OK, so it's probably overkill for a board fin but we're near the coast and this part is not covered by NDAs! It's lightweight at 114g and this one is unlikely to break...(note, the other in the pic is an ABS print, NOT a carbon part) #composites #aerospaceengineering #watersports #jecworld2024

How can the poor surface condition of 3D printed metals, including near surface pores, high roughness, and a lack of specialized properties, be addressed? Our latest collaboration beween Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing Laboratory and #CAMJ at the University of Waterloo represents a step towards manufacturing lightweight metal components with internal porosity while achieving dense, functionalized surfaces (e.g., wear resistance, corrosion resistance, etc.). This was achieved through a flexible, low heat-input technique known as electrospark deposition (ESD). Additionally, we reaffirmed the substantial impact of supersolidus liquid phase sintering (SLPS) on the surface modification of a metal powder compact. Jihui Yan, Mihaela Vlasea, Peng Peng, Mohsen K.
