In the financial advisory industry, is sharing ideas to grow together more important than keeping ideas secret and growing alone? I sat down at the new cactus club in Calgary Crowfoot today. I was meeting another advisor at RBC DS today, Zachary Ayers . We were just collaborating on some ideas. But why I am telling you this, is this: 1. The younger advisors at RBC DS have such drive to help their clients'. 2. Collaborating is important in most industries. 3. Yes, there is an old way of doing things with pen and paper (that's me), and yes, there is a new way of doing things with video and graphics (that's Zach) Do you collaborate in your industry? If we share ideas, we grow together, right? If we can learn and get better, why not? I have been part of the RBC DS mentorship program a few years now, and what I realize is there is not one way to do everything. Our industry is good at being secretive regarding how we grow our business. Is yours the same way? Why hide an idea when sharing can benefit everyone instead? Grateful reflection on 2023: As I reflect on 2023, I can't help but express immense gratitude for the journey I've been on. Having graduated from Aston University with a Masters in International Business, I embarked on a fulfilling career path, landing a position as a Graduate CSR at Metro Bank. This experience has not only honed my skills but has been a source of valuable insights into the dynamic world of banking. One of the highlights of the year has been my commitment to professional growth. I took the initiative to prepare for CIMA management level exams, achieving a part-qualified status. This milestone has not only expanded my knowledge but has also added significant value to my skill set. However, the year also presented challenges, notably the unforeseen plan for redundancy at the bank. Despite the uncertainty, I see this as an opportunity for new beginnings and growth. I am actively exploring diverse avenues, seeking roles that align with my skills, passion, and dedication. As I step into the unknown of 2024, I carry with me the lessons learned, the accomplishments achieved, and a spirit of resilience. Reflecting on an incredible first year as a Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual! About a month late posting this, but what a rollercoaster ride it’s been! Over the past year, I’ve experienced growth and fulfillment like never before. Here are some key takeaways from my journey so far: - Rekindling Relationships: I’ve had the chance to reconnect with old friends, colleagues, and past colleagues. It's been amazing to reconnect with people I haven't spoken to in years. - New Connections: I’ve met so many inspiring individuals who have changed my life and helped me grow. I've met so many new clients and individuals I never would have spoken to and helped impact their lives. - Continuous Learning: Every day brings new challenges and insights, allowing me to expand my knowledge and skills in ways I never anticipated. Additionally, critical thinking ability is imperative, every person I work with is different and requires different levels of planning, which keeps the work new and exciting. - Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone: It's not an easy position, but embracing discomfort has led to incredible personal and professional growth. I’ve learned that true growth happens when I step outside my comfort zone. - Impacting Lives: Helping clients achieve their financial goals has been by far one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey. It’s truly fulfilling to know I’m making a difference in their lives. Milestone Achievement: I’m proud to have hit P40, a milestone reached by very few financial advisors.
