I am not at all surprised by the brouhaha about poor experience to popular hill stations of North India. Every year it is the same story. Nothing has changed and nothing will till we take some stern steps. As a visitor to these places regularly every year, i see little hope. The tourist services (guides, transport, hotels etc.) are mostly unregulated and malpractices are rampant. In popular places like Manali, Shimla, Nanital etc, mafia is firmly in control. 'Peak season' is used to fleece travellers more often than not. The construction in Himachal Pradesh has been ignoring all sustainability concerns, not learning anything from the neighboring Uttarakhand which is facing fury of nature for pursuing unsustainable development. Cloud bursts, stone falling, and landslides may become more common in HP in a few years. Non-rationed tourism (limiting number of travellers) has killed the natural beauty. The construction practices of NHAI contractors are worsening in these areas. They are totally insensitive to the convenience of the users who use the road while the construction is continuing. They blatantly violate the safeguard and obligations provided in their contracts, seldom care about the pollution control norms, do not follow safe practices for their workers and road users. The worst part is that the road construction quality is below par in most cases. I have totally avoided going into the 'peak seasons' - usually go into the shoulder season to avoid crowds and have some sort of normalcy and enjoy the (remaining) beauty of hill stations.

Balancing Development and Conservation in Goa Goa, like many popular destinations in Europe, is grappling with the challenges of over-tourism. The surge in tourism is putting immense pressure on the fragile ecosystem of the Western Ghats. This article indicates that the conversion rate of land is almost 10 times higher than between 1986 and 2005, driven by massive infrastructure projects. This is accelerated carnage not development. While development is essential for economic growth, it should not come at such hefty cost of our environment. This situation in Goa raises an important question: Are we witnessing true development or degeneration? It’s crucial to strike a balance between progress and preservation to ensure sustainable growth for future generations. GDP is not the true measure..it's only an economic indicator.. Do we need economic growth or do we need to thrive as living beings (not just human beings)??? Do you think Goa should collect tourist fee from all visitors and use it in sustainable projects for the betterment of Goa?? This is fee is there in many tourist places.. #SustainableTourism #EcoFriendly #SaveTheWesternGhats #ResponsibleTravel #Goa #EnvironmentalConservation #TourismImpact #DevelopmentVsDegeneration #ProtectOurPlanet #Sustainability
