The 70-Hour Workweek Paradox. 70 hours of work every week? Absolutely! But, for an employer? Nope! While the statement – ’Youngsters should adopt a 70-hour workweek model!’ – has raised a lot of eyebrows, it does seem valid in a broader sense. An intense 70-hour workweek should definitely be adopted, but under a couple of conditions. First, the 70-hour effort should be split into two segments with 45-hour and 25-hour bandwidths. And the 25-hour bandwidth should be spread across the entire week, irrespective of the regular workdays. Second, the weekly effort of 25 hours should be strictly considered as an effort that a person invests in one's own personal and professional growth. His/Her/Their employers should have absolutely no involvement in how this 25 hours is spent. Any person with dreams and ambitions will never find this effort as a burden. It’ll instead be fuel to a fire that’s already raging within them. Any person fueled by passion will thrive, and not just survive. Mediocrity will never be a part of their action plan. They’re the dreamers whose ambitions won’t let them sleep at night. They won’t settle until their dreams are achieved. Also, 70-hour "workweeks" are a breeze for them. Importantly, it’s a personal choice to be the torchbearer or an average Joe. The effort for each is radically different from one another. Let’s appreciate each other’s choices and live in peace! ✌

Here’s how it worked: Employees worked 32 hours over the course of four days, but didn't get less done, they were just more efficient. Employees get 100% of their pay for working 80% of the time if they accomplish 100% of their usual tasks. The results of this trial? Companies reported that the shorter workweek improved productivity, morale and team culture. Of course, I want it to be more productive and effective than the five-day week, but I still had many doubts. 1. Do companies lose money 💸 on a four-day week? Or are they less competitive? 🏆 2. Do staff have to work longer hours ⏰ to do the same work? 3. Does it lead to more stress? 😩 4. How does it scale across industries, especially emergency or time-dependent sectors like healthcare? 🚑 5. What are the actual results and feedback from trials? 🤔 And while I came to the conversation with doubts, I left it feeling very inspired. ✨ So inspired, I've decided to adopt it for myself! 🎉 While it's an easy decision to make as a self-employed person, it may be hard to implement—as I will have to deal with the benefits or consequences personally. 1. What would Nuan’s thoughts be on the German controversial discussions of a four-day workweek? The topic repeatedly sparks discussions in the German work sphere. On one hand, it promises a better work-life balance; on the other hand, the question remains: Is it really the key to more success and (in our case) a world without waste and can the country afford it? What I’m sure of: Achieving a world without waste is a challenging task – one that cannot be done within a four-day workweek. Similar to competitive sports, ambitious goals demand work and investment. Every step requires effort and the will to question and improve existing systems.
