Modern technology can really have an impact in designing layouts, it’s going to be really interesting seeing the development of spatial data visualization and the use of AI over the next few years.

Inspired by industry colleagues, the Arcadis Arboricultural team has been experimenting with drone surveys as part of our BS 5837 data collection process. In collaboration with our in-house drone team we’ve been able to efficiently collect spatial data for modelling and site visualisation while ensuring safety for surveyors and other site users. As we’re often some of the first on a site, we’re finding that the additional visualisation capabilities that drone surveys provide are proving invaluable for the early stages of a project. One of the greatest revelations to me has been the ability to target important or interesting trees to provide detailed 3D visualisations like the one in the video. I think the results speak for themselves! We will be working on ways to incorporate this into our reporting so they can be easily provided to clients and end users. In today's Infrastructure Construction Story, we talk about how drone imagery helped in piping installation when the construction team faced a dilemma! 🚀🏗️ 🚧 The problem: After completing a piping installation and sealing the trench. They noticed that the required amount of coordinates for the piping didn't clearly show how exactly the pipe was installed. 📸 Solution: Thanks to continuous drone surveying on the construction site, they found detailed orthophotos of the installation where they could see the entire piping layout before it was covered. 🔍 These high-resolution drone orthophotos were very useful as they filled the gaps in documentation, providing the additional measurements needed to clarify the piping's path without needing re-excavation. 💡 This could have been a significant setback, and with traditional methods, it would have involved time-consuming and costly digging to reassess the pipe location. But this was avoided thanks to regular drone surveying! Each of the stories in our series shows the power of technology in the construction landscape.
