This week marks Children's Mental Health Week, a crucial time to acknowledge the mental health challenges faced by children everywhere, especially those who have been abused through trafficking and exploitation. Thanks to Place2Be for organising such an important week every year. ECPAT UK has long advocated for the rights and recovery of child victims, emphasising the need for specialist care and comprehensive support systems to help them heal from their trauma and abuse.
In our 2022 blog post, "Space to Thrive: We Need More Support for Child Victims of Trafficking and Exploitation to Recover from Trauma and Abuse," we shed light on the need for specialized mental health services tailored to the unique experiences of these young survivors. The article serves as a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, but only with the right support structures in place. https://lnkd.in/gRTnBrTD

In the quiet corners of our communities, there are families grappling with the heavy burdens of trauma. Yet, despite the weight of their struggles, the basic support they desperately need is often just out of reach.
We believe that the road to mental wellness begins at home with practical support, such as decluttering and deep cleaning. These actions are more than just chores; they are the first, essential steps toward healing and stability.
However, startling data reveals a disheartening truth: vast amounts of government funds are funneled into interventions that, rather than lifting these families up, often bring them no substantial relief. It’s time to challenge the status quo and redirect these resources towards positive, practical support systems.
We must raise our voices! It is unjust that those in vulnerable positions are overlooked and under-supported. Every family deserves to thrive in a nurturing environment, yet many are denied this basic right.
🤝 This is the core of our mission. We exist to speak out, to step up, and to secure the early intervention supports that can truly make a difference.
✊ Let’s unite for the cause. Let’s demand better. For support, justice, and the dignity every family deserves.

Did you know... more than 1 in 5 US adults live with mental illness? The vital role mental health plays in our overall health and well-being cannot be stressed enough. The most important thing we can do is promote speaking up and speaking out. That will be the most powerful tool to reduce the often-horrific statistics relating to mental health and raise more awareness.
Now more than ever we need to raise awareness of stress, burnout, and trauma and the impact it can have on the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of children, families, and communities.

This year's Children's Mental Health Acceptance Week will be the second week of National Mental Health Awareness Month: May 5-11. Learn more from the National Federation of Families:
#CMHAW2024#AcceptAdvocateAct
A new event in May with three champions and advocates for families! Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Week, previously known as Awareness Week, has a long history. The campaign began in Missouri in 1992. Over the next five years, several more states started their own celebrations, and the National Federation of Families took the campaign national.
Join us for a rich discussion about the history, evolution, and future of this important campaign as we pass the torch from SAMHSA mental health champion Liz Sweet (retired) to Carol Cecil (incumbent). Learn more about how you can promote the message of acceptance of mental health challenges for children, youth, and families.
