It's no secret that the way people watch TV is changing. 📺 The fact remains that we still WATCH TV however the access to it is changing. Over the past 12 months broadcast viewership is relatively unchanged (-0.4%) however cable viewership has diminished more rapidly. 📉 So those people stopped watching TV? Nope! 🚫 They watch using a different platform. What platform you ask? Streaming! Cable usage has declined 3.8% ⬇️️ while streaming has increased by 2.6% ⬆️. ❓ So, the question is, have you adjusted your media mix to account for this continuing trend?

YouTube and FAST made history, and the Paris Olympics kept legacy TV alive. Here's a quick recap of the U.S. TV market in July: According to Nielsen's Gauge, the Paris Olympics, which kicked off the last week of July, drove a significant share of U.S. terrestrial TV and streaming (peacock) viewership. However, YouTube broke the 10% share mark for streaming for the first time ever. August is even more promising (?) as the Olympics will also be watched on YouTube. How did FAST do? Tubi was again over 2.1%. Roku was also at 1.6%. The Olympics saved TV, but YouTube is forging its own future https://lnkd.in/gjWNRQeT

While predictions about the death of cable TV are coming true, streaming still lags by a few seconds. Having sat in the press box at live events, I have seen how TV broadcasts are already a few seconds delayed. Streaming adds a bit more to that delay (in my limited experience). This might not matter for some sports, but for purists, anything less than live on a screen isn't worth it. However, the market doesn't seem to care. If viewers are drifting towards streaming, it is a clear sign that traditional TV broadcasting is nearing its end. #broadcast #streaming #livesports https://lnkd.in/gFw4Td6s
