🌍 #Biodiversity at Risk: The latest data from 2023 highlights the alarming percentage of threatened species across various categories: Cycads are the most endangered, with a staggering 70% of species at risk. Amphibians and sharks & rays follow closely, with 41% and 37% of species threatened, respectively. Reef corals and conifers also face significant threats, with 36% and 34% of species endangered. The global #BiodiversityCrisis is more pressing than ever, requiring immediate and concerted efforts to protect our planet's delicate ecosystems. 💡 To explore more about the state of our environment and the trends shaping our future, check out our #TrendCompendium: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dNUz-ndx #RolandBerger #Sustainability #Conservation #EndangeredSpecies #EcosystemProtection

We are losing more species every day to climate disaster. Learn more about one such species, the Rabbs’ fringe-limbed treefrog, in Laura Odom's piece, “No More Fish in the Sea: A Lonely Treefrog and the Ongoing Climate Crisis." 🔗https://lnkd.in/eSdjRR6W TL;DR - Endangered species like Rabbs’ fringe-limbed treefrog are disappearing at an alarming rate - Experts believe we are experiencing a mass extinction event caused by human expansion - To slow the biodiversity crisis, we can support wildlife conservation, advocate for climate action, and make pro-environmental lifestyle changes #TreeFrogs #Biodiversity #climatechange #wildlifeconservation #PennState #Ecology

Do you know there are species at risk in Muskoka? Species at Risk include plants and animals that fall into the following categories: threatened with extinction, extirpation, or endangerment in a region. These species are at risk because of various natural and human-induced threats. According to the 2023 Muskoka Watershed Report Card, 48 species are listed as at risk in Muskoka, including the American Bumblebee, Monarch Butterfly, Massasauga Rattle Snake, and Bald Eagle. You can learn more about environmental trends by reading our 2023 Muskoka Vital Signs Report, available at the link here: https://lnkd.in/gyn9sjy7...

Great to see the important work of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) trending in the news today! Illegal killing of many migratory #animals, particularly multiple species of #dolphin, is driving them to extinction and undermining the effectiveness of this 40-year old convention. In order to meet contemporary targets of #biodiversity restoration and #climate mitigation, governments following through on the commitments of #CMS can be a huge part of the solution. https://lnkd.in/eNs96dak

Depressing reading ... we need to behave differently "Extinction risk is rising ..., with considerably more species deteriorating than improving between 1988 and 2020. Across the wider group of all migratory species, levels of extinction risk are also escalating.... Migratory species are exposed to a diverse range of anthropogenic pressures that are driving population declines. Habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation (primarily driven by agricultural expansion), and overexploitation (hunting and fishing, both targeted and incidental), emerge as the two most pervasive threats to CMS-listed species and migratory species as a whole.

A useful reminder of the importance of wetlands to mark #WorldWetlandsDay
🌍 Wetlands are a vital part of a healthy environment, and one of the most biologically productive ecosystems. They provide many ecosystem services like: 🥚 Breeding and nesting grounds 🌪Storm surge protection 🔗 Connectivity 🐟 Biodiversity 🌊 Flood mitigation 💧 Water purification and storage 🏝 Habitat 🌳 Carbon sequestration Today marks #WorldWetlandsDay! Help us to raise awareness by sharing the message of the importance of the conservation and restoration of our wetlands. Are whales important for the ocean? 🐋 Whales play an important role in marine ecosystems! - They maintain the planet’s health by removing carbon from the atmosphere. - Their excrements are rich in iron and nitrogen, essential nutrients that fertilize marine plants, particularly phytoplankton, which form the base of the oceanic food chain. - By enhancing plankton populations, whales indirectly support marine biodiversity, including fish and other marine species, contributing to the health and balance of marine ecosystems. Through the years, whales continue to face the threat of extinction. The most endangered species is the North Atlantic right whale. Spreading awareness about endangered whales can make a difference and inspire more people to protect them! #MAREX #letsworktogether #WorldWhaleDay #whales #cetaceans #ocean #endangeredspecies

🌳🚨 Our planet's trees are facing a crisis! Did you know that one-third of tree species are facing extinction due to land use changes like agriculture and logging? According to the recent Global Tree Assessment report, there are twice as many threatened tree species worldwide compared to mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles combined. Trees are essential for countless animal species, serving as food and habitat for at least half of Earth's land-based life forms. Losing tree species could trigger cascading extinctions among dependent species. One such tree in focus is the Red Balau (Shorea balangeran), assessed as Vulnerable on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2020. It's crucial to protect and conserve these vital species. That's why Replant World is dedicated to safeguarding threatened native trees, working closely with local and indigenous communities. 🌱💚 #Tree #Conservation #EcosystemRestoration #Biodiversity #ClimateChange #Forest #indigenous
