Two-Wheeler Safety: * Always wear a helmet and ensure that the person riding with you does the same. * Avoid roads with heavy kite-flying activity to prevent getting entangled in kite strings. * Be cautious of sharp threads that may pose a risk. * Attach a safety rod to your two-wheeler to protect the rider from kite strings while on the road. 2. Bird and Animal Care: * Be mindful of birds; if you find any injured, contact local animal rescue services immediately. * Keep water and food out for animals who may feel stressed during the festivities. You may have seen them driving around town. You may have one on your own car. But did you know that SA’s Koala State number plates are not just a great way to make a statement in traffic, but are making a real difference to the fortunes of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in South Australia? $50 from every plate sold is set aside to help the individuals and organisations that give so much of their time to help animals in need. The first recipients of the new South Australian Wildlife Rehabilitation Grants pilot program were recently announced, with 13 individuals and not-for-profit organisations in the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector sharing in a total $50,000 in funding. The recipients will each receive a grant up to $5000 to help pay for equipment, supplies, training and veterinary services to support their important work. About 2200 Koala State plates have been sold since the scheme was introduced in July 2023. The plates cost $151, which includes a $70 plate fee, $31 reallocation fee for vehicles already registered in SA and a $50 one-off donation for our wildlife. Condemned to death for being ‘useless,’ hundreds of farm animals in England need your help. For many farmers, their animals are little more than tools of their trade, existing only to make them money. So when a farm animal cannot earn their keep, they are simply exterminated. Without our partner, countless farm animals would have been needlessly slaughtered. In Stratford-Upon-Avon, England, Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary (FARS) has been saving farm animals from death for over 35 years. The sanctuary is currently home to 300 sheep, as well as pigs, chickens, cats, and pigeons, all of which were born deformed, suffered permanent injuries, are too old to breed, or were simply no longer wanted by their owners. All except the cats, of course – they just showed up, as cats so often do. Now, they need your help.
