Did you know that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner has two distinct engine manufacturers to choose from? The state-of-the-art aircraft can be manufactured with a Rolls Royce (Trent 1000) engine or General Electric. Both engines share their pros and cons; however, General Electric seems to have power over most of the engine market.

I think it would be smart business to go single aisle. They could introduce a family of aircraft akin to the Airbus A320 family, thereby replacing both the 757 and the 737. It could have lots of composites to keep it relatively light. It could have the ground clearance to accommodate fuel efficient high bypass engines without the MCAS debacle. If done right it even might accommodate the next generation open fan engines. The cockpit could be a lot more comfortable, reducing fatigue and increasing safety. There likely are good arguments in favor of the twin aisle option - please share.

#AvgeekFriday! Following up on our post about A320-type designations, it’s time to dive into Boeing 737 trivia. Specifically, the Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) series! The Boeing 737 series has evolved significantly since its launch in the 1960s, with four distinct variants: 737-100/200 | Jurassic (The legacy model) 737-300/400/500 | Classic 737-600/700/800/900 | Next Generation (NG) 737-7/8/9/10 | MAX Originally, Boeing assigned unique customer codes to specify the exact type and configuration of each aircraft. However, with the arrival of the 787 Dreamliner, Boeing streamlined this approach, now using only the type designation. This can be also seen on the Boeing 737MAX Series. Another interesting detail: Boeing employs both manufacturer serial numbers (MSN) and line numbers to track aircraft, unlike Airbus, which uses the MSN as both serial and line numbers. As a result, a Boeing aircraft’s MSN and line number may not match, adding an extra layer to the production history! The Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 is a high-bypass turbofan engine produced by Rolls-Royce, an iteration of the Trent family powering exclusively the Airbus A330neo. Compared to the A330's Trent 700, the 68,000–72,000 lbf (300–320 kN) engine doubles the bypass ratio to 10:1 and halves emitted noise. Pressure ratio is increased to 50:1, and it has a 112 in (280 cm) fan and a bleed air system. Fuel consumption is improved by 11%.

Role:Suited for high-density, long-haul international routes. Airbus A320 Engines:Typically equipped with either CFM56 or IAEV2500. It is a two‐engine aircraft Thrust: Between 24,000 and 33,000 lbs of thrust, depending on the engine variant. Role:Suited for low-density, short or medium haul international or regional routes.
