Here are the essential skills from my point of view that transport planners must have today (this is not an exhaustive list! :) 1). Advanced #DataAnalysis and #SimulationTechnologies: Mastery over Geographic Information Systems (#GIS) and simulation software is indispensable or very much desirable. This tipically involves leveraging data for predictive modeling, capacity planning, and to enhance #TransportEfficiency 2). Deep/good understanding of #SustainableTransport: With the global push towards the United Nations #SDGs, transport planners must bear in mind the principles of sustainable mobility. This includes designing low-emission transport systems, promoting #Active Travel (cycling, walking), and integrating public transport with green urban spaces. 3). Effective #StakeholderEngagement: The ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders- governments, private sector, civic groups, and the public-is critical. Transport planners need to facilitate dialogue, manage conflicts, and harness community insights for project success. 4). Regulatory and policy knowledge: A solid grasp of transportation laws, regulations, and policy frameworks at local, national, and international levels ensures plans are viable and compliant. 5). Innovative #Mobility Solutions and #UrbanDesign: Creativity in addressing urban mobility challenges is essential. This encompasses not just the physical design of transport systems but also conceptualizing new service models like #MaaS. Placemaking skills that create vibrant, accessible, and safe spaces are also a superpower.

#Multimodality in transportation goes beyond just making it easy for people to get around. It’s an approach to transit that aims to reform traditional mobility systems by putting people at the forefront of urban planning. This means combining a variety of transportation modes to improve mobility for all citizens. Merging public transit with multimodal options allows us to move more people in and out of cities and rural areas, connecting them to essential services and amenities needed to maintain a satisfactory quality of life. Modeshift's CEO Miroslav Katsarov delves into the topic of how transportation can go beyond #MaaS - explore his latest article for Forbes Technology Council here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dNtqmXeX #PublicTransit #MultimodalTransport #MobilityInfrastructure

Transportation Planner & Policy Analyst | Bringing Data-Driven Insights to Urban Mobility Solutions”
🚦 Using Data to Drive Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Mobility 🚦 As cities increasingly turn to data-driven solutions to address urban mobility challenges, the potential for achieving sustainable, accessible, and equitable transportation systems grows tremendously. Data on passenger movements, vehicle fleets, and transportation infrastructure holds immense power in shaping policies that prioritize low-emission fuels, reduce single-occupancy trips, and expand transport services to underserved communities. However, cities face significant obstacles in harnessing this data effectively: regulatory gaps, privacy concerns, and limited internal capacities often hamper progress. To bridge these gaps, harmonizing data-sharing standards and strengthening cities’ regulatory authority over private mobility services are crucial steps. 📝 Key Takeaways: 1. Uniform data-sharing requirements will streamline collaboration between cities and private mobility providers. 2. Investing in public sector data processing capacities enables smarter, targeted mobility planning. 3. Empowering cities with regulatory control will allow them to prioritize public interest over profit motives, fostering urban systems that are truly sustainable and inclusive. Cities, states, and the private sector must collaborate to unlock data’s potential in creating resilient, people-centered transportation networks. 🌍 #UrbanMobility #SustainableCities #DataDriven #Transportation #InclusiveGrowth #CityPlanning #MobilityData

As a startup founder in the last mile space, I'm deeply engaged in understanding how SMEs are navigating the new Zero Emission Zones regulations in major EU cities. My focus? The pivotal role of Urban Consolidation Centers (UCCs) and City Hubs in revolutionizing last-mile deliveries while meeting sustainability goals (little example attached for those in need of visual aid). Consolidation strategies (CS) are at the forefront of urban logistics innovation, aiming to strike a balance between efficiency and environmental responsibility. By optimizing routes and reducing fleet trips, CS not only generate significant cost savings for carriers but also contribute to easing traffic congestion and preserving public spaces. I'm passionate about exploring these intersections, if you are too I invite you to drop me a message and share some of your thoughts on how SME's can keep up with these rapid changes in urban logistics. Let's collaborate to drive meaningful solutions and push sustainable growth in our cities. #SustainableLogistics #UrbanInnovation #microfulfilment

🔎 Looking for an insighfull ITS MasterPlan? 👌I would be happy to tell you an excellent and insightful example of an #ITS #Masterplan📗 🚨 The importance of #traffic #management lies in its ability to optimize 📈 the flow of vehicles🚗, pedestrians🚶♂️, and other modes of #transportation 🚌 within a city. ⚙ By implementing effective traffic management strategies, cities can reduce #congestion, minimize #traveltimes🕖, and enhance overall #safety on the #roads. This leads to improved #airquality🏙, reduced #fuelconsumptio🌪, and a better quality of life for #residents. 🛑 An ITS masterplan focuses on leveraging #advanced #technologies and #datadriven solutions to enhance #transportation #systems. It involves the integration of various intelligent transportation technologies, such as #trafficsignals #coordination🚦, #realtime traffic #monitoring, #smartparking systems, and #dynamicroute guidance. 🔑 Based on a thorough investigation into Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) masterplans, I’ve founded that #perth's ITS masterplan (link below) by #AustralianMainRoads is excellent and very informative; I would suggest #Traffic and #ITS #Engineers take a look into it. ➡ https://lnkd.in/gNq4ViA9 👉 It is a well-thought-out and #functional #framework for improving #urbanmobility has been produced by the thorough study and #strategic approach used in the creation of the ITS masterplan. The concept shows that the designers have a thorough awareness of the difficulties in traffic management and mobility enhancement that contemporary cities confront. ✅ One notable feature of the Perth ITS masterplan is its comprehensive approach, which covers a wide range of transportation management topics.
