In designing, and especially in evaluating, community development interventions, it is necessary to adopt a circular mindset. It generates growth by widening the circle, reaching distant lands and merging systems. Quality is the quantity and differentiation of connections between elements (stakeholders). Value is generated in the interstices of exchanges

Love the visual representation of this. Funny enough, it was very relevant to something I executed today. Broken down into steps: 1. Asses the situation. 2. Quick check in to see if they’re ok and there isn’t something bigger going on, you can help with (the friendly tap on the head). 3. No response or reciprocation. Swiftly move on with grace and respect. Take outs: Set boundaries and don’t waste your most precious commodity, TIME! Agree with the message of the original post but also want to highlight, that it isn’t your responsibility to help everyone. (People pleasers - I’m taking to you!) Remember to fill your cup first because you can’t pour from an empty one.

How can you foster and maintain the spirit of reciprocity and giving more than you take in your community? So here's the thing: community groups involve people giving. There's stuff people get out of being part of them, but they only tend to occur because some people give generously. It works best when *everyone* gives generously with that they have, as there's always something people can give and the spirit it fosters is vital. When it breaks down, there's a sense of freeloading, people just looking after their own interests or people not contributing back to the ideals of the club or community. Various groups try to address this to greater or lesser degrees in different ways. Some formally, some with informal culture. Who does this well? What communities solve this for themselves well. To identify your values, examine the decisions that you make. If you find yourself always hosting events then you value community. If you can't work in a noisy environment then you value order. If you find yourself unwilling to break any rules then you probably value discipline.
