Authority with authenticity. Had a great chat with a friend a few months back, and we got on the topic of sommeliers and how they sell a wine. In particular, a sommelier pitching him on how a hillside and gravel road were situated in a particular vineyard of France. Well, unbeknownst to the somm, this friend was just at this area a few weeks back and could authoritatively comment that it was not in fact how the somm explained it to be. A reminder that as the authority in that moment, the somm can explain how they imagine something to be, and what the methods of production, varietal, etc objectively are, but by straying into something he didn't have firsthand knowledge of, he leveraged an appeal to authority to the wrong person at the wrong time. You can be an authority without all the answers. Especially in something like wine, where I've tried hundreds of thousands, but would never represent myself as having traveled the globe to learn in the territory itself. Be authoritative, know your sh*t. But don't lose authenticity in the process. #sommelier #authenticity

A perfect example of how paid social can drive brand and earned media (and a reminder to check your Meta comments). 👀 I joined Rachel Loughran for a shoot with English winemaker, Kieron Atkinson, to create a piece of UGC that answered the question wine drinkers ask the most, "how do I pick a good bottle of wine?". I'll tell you how at the end... Thanks to a cracking script and expert video editing from Rachel, we had a new creative to launch on social. Very quickly, the ad was scaling and generating a lot of engagement but not for reasons I expected. The comments section became filled with comparisons of Kieron with Tom Cruise, with one user nicknaming him 'Tom Booze'. 😂 We jumped on this straight away and Rachel did her magic to produce another creative soft-launching 'Tom Booze' which took off quicker than Tom Cruise running from an exploding building. Next thing you know Kieron and Tom Booze has gone viral and is being featured in BBC News, The Telegraph, TV and radio. Plus, with Tom Cruise abseiling Stade de France to close out the Olympics, the timing couldn't have been better. Oh, and the answer to how to pick a good bottle of wine? Buy from independent winemakers and get wines tailored to your taste, of course. 🍷
