𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀? 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵! 1️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀: According to Gartner, 86% of CIOs report increased competition for qualified candidates. Research from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics confirms that the shortage of available talent will grow to 1.2 million by 2026 in the United States alone. 2️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆: Finding qualified tech employees is just the first challenge. The second is retaining them. Another Gartner survey found that only 29% of IT workers have high intent to stay with their current employer. Replacing these workers will get more expensive as the talent pool shrinks and competition rises. 3️⃣ 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀s: A lack of trust between HR and IT leaders emerges as a major obstacle. Over 50% of HR leaders doubt the IT team's ability to manage the tech talent lifecycle, while more than half of IT leaders question the HR team's technical expertise. This mutual skepticism hinders effective collaboration on talent acquisition and retention strategies. 4️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱: Unsurprisingly, senior technology and people leaders aren’t satisfied with their talent development and retention strategies. Only 13% of those surveyed were satisfied, which drops to 11% when asked about hiring strategies. 5️⃣ 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Retaining existing talent is equally crucial. The report emphasizes the need for competitive compensation packages, positive work culture, and development opportunities to keep top performers engaged and prevent them from leaving for other companies. One thing I like to keep in mind is how accessible we’re making the hiring and career development process for candidates. Do they have access to the technology, infrastructure, and resources needed for remote work and skills development to be successful? As I shared with Forbes acknowledging and closing these gaps is critical for enabling talent growth and support. Wondering what else you should be keeping in mind as you review and improve upon your own hiring practices?
