Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the Low Tech High Tech - Green Architecture conference by Grupa Sztuka Architektury in a beautiful setting of a Museum of the University of Warsaw, and one of the most impactful sessions was Gabriela Cader presentation. Gabriela approached the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from a #holistic perspective—starting from entire cities, down to individual buildings, and ultimately, what each of us can do personally. Her focus on the role of #plantbased diets in reducing emissions deeply resonated with me. 🌱 One topic that particularly caught my attention was #hydrogen energy storage systems. ⚡ This exciting technology, combined with renewable energy sources like #photovoltaics and #windpower, has the potential to create energy self-sufficient buildings. 🏡 I’m eager to explore how these systems can be implemented at home and hope to see increased funding for these solutions. 💡 The conference also reminded me of the need to prioritize well-being as we decarbonize our built environments. 🏙️ Based on discussions with several architects in Poland, it seems that: - Large investors (though not always) tend to overlook occupant comfort and health. 🏢 - Private investors are often more conscious of sustainable building practices as they care for their families 🌍 - Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery is still underappreciated but essential for both energy savings and healthy living. 💨 Together with Airfi Oy AB I’m working to raise awareness on these issues in #Poland, and I believe #education is key to driving change. 📚 I’m hopeful that society and large investors alike will start to prioritize this holistic approach. 🔋 Key takeaways: - Hydrogen storage systems + renewables = energy self-sufficiency. - Well-being and #decarbonization must go hand in hand. - Clean air and energy savings should be a right for all. Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) are making our cities hotter than rural areas! Buildings, pavements, and traffic pollution are causing increased energy use, poor air quality, and health risks like respiratory problems and heatstroke, especially at night. But there’s hope! Solutions include bioclimatic architecture with renewable energy, green roofs, and sustainable infrastructure. We can also reduce vehicle traffic with Mobility as a Service (MaaS), implement green taxes on emissions, and develop eco-neighborhoods with more green spaces.
