It’s easy to think we understand our users when we’re looking at data from afar, but the real insights come when we step into their world. Back when I was working at Sary, we struggled at the beginning to understand why our drivers and warehouse workers weren’t adopting the systems as we had expected. Working remotely, it seemed like they just needed more encouragement. But then we decided to spend time with them, doing on-the-job training, visiting warehouses, and seeing firsthand the work they do every day. What we discovered was eye-opening. Their work was tough, demanding, and full of responsibility. The system we had designed wasn’t making their jobs easier; it was adding complexity. It wasn’t about pushing them harder to use the system; it was about creating a product that genuinely met their needs. That’s when we realized – if the customer isn’t using the app or enjoying the service, it’s not on them, it’s on us. We didn’t push the quality bar high enough. Empathy isn’t just about understanding; it’s about truly connecting with our users and using those insights to build better products.

Joe Saviak 100% agree ! Firing toxic managers boosts morale, performance, and retention. As Patrick Lencioni stated, "If someone is going to drain the energy out of an organization, get rid of them." The presence of toxic supervisors can have severely detrimental effects on teams and organizations. Removing such individuals is often necessary to repair the damage and create a healthy, productive environment. While firing supervisors is difficult, multiple case studies demonstrate the immense benefits in improved workplace culture, recruitment, retention, productivity and customer satisfaction when toxic managers are removed. As Jim Collins stated in Good to Great, "First who, then what" - getting the right people is more important than any other decision. In summary, extensive research, expert insights and real examples highlight that firing toxic supervisors, though challenging, pays immense dividends for organizations in the form of a healthier, more engaged and higher-performing workforce.
Few things improve morale, teamwork, culture, recruitment, retention, productivity, performance, and customer satisfaction like firing a few toxic supervisors. I have seen it work wonders during my career.

Reflecting on My Journey So Far: Key Learnings from My New Role Although I've only been in my current position for a few months, the experience has already been incredibly rewarding and full of learning opportunities. I wanted to share some of the key takeaways that have made this journey so enriching: 1. Skill Development: Since starting, I’ve had the chance to be hands-on with using SQL within a database. This practical experience is significantly enhancing my data analysis capabilities and my ability to manipulate and retrieve data efficiently. 2. Team Collaboration: Collaboration amongst other analysts has been crucial. We definitely learn from each other, and working alongside such a talented and supportive team has been a highlight. Effective communication and teamwork are driving our projects forward. 3. Adaptability: Learning new areas within the distribution center has been a valuable experience. Previously only familiar with e-commerce processes, it has been great to understand other departments within the building. There are always new issues that pop up, so being able to adapt and react quickly is vital. 4. Professional Growth: Feedback and support from colleagues have been instrumental in my growth. Their insights and encouragement have helped me tremendously to excel in this role. 5. Industry Insights: Being able to work in this position has given me a better understanding of the operations happening in the background. It is great to learn all these processes and how they contribute to the overall efficiency of the distribution center. I'm grateful for Ulta Beauty and my fantastic colleagues for this wonderful start. I'm excited about the road ahead and look forward to continuing to learn and grow in this role. #ProfessionalGrowth #LearningJourney #TeamWork #CareerDevelopment

In 2024, I had a few things on my wish list... A new category, a new country and a celebrity client – well two out of three isn’t a bad start for quarter one! This is the result of determination, commitment and a general willingness not just by me but of course the concerted efforts of the Brand Champions team. It is proof that when everyone aligns with a common goal, remarkable things can happen. With the days getting longer and the sun finally starting to show its face, May tends to feel like a sprint towards summer. But we’re keeping our focus sharp. I firmly believe that setting clear goals is pivotal for success, so, here are some of my goals for this month… 😎 Onboarding a major client in a new category, setting the stage for their success 😄 Prioritising client satisfaction as we gear up for mid-year reviews ❤️ Ensuring we maintain our team culture and values as we continue to grow 💫 Investing in team professional development, ensuring their happiness and fulfilment is totally aligned with client satisfaction. You can’t have one without the other. 🌞 And of course, getting summer ready! Ready for another busy month! What are your goals for May? Share them in the comments - I’d love to know…. Also, does anyone know any celebrities?! Asking for a friend 👀
