I was talking to a friend the other day. He purchased an expensive new car just eight months ago. Unfortunately, the car turned out to be a “lemon,” and he has taken it back to the dealer multiple times for various problems. The car has spent more time at the repair center than in his garage. If it were me, I’d ask the dealer to replace the car. Apparently, he has more patience than I do and was giving the dealer another chance to fix the car. Regardless, it made me think that what looks good on the outside may not be so good on the inside. Unfortunately, there are businesses that fall into the same category as my friend’s automobile. They look good on the outside, with amazing marketing and advertising, a beautiful website, a beautiful building, etc., but when it comes to taking care of the customer, they fail. This made me think further about how cars are maintained, and it’s not much different from how you would want to run your business. 📢 Consumer rant incoming: Stop the planet. I want to get off. My wife recently bought some prints online from Smallwoods. They're a modestly overpriced photo printer that provides nice canvas prints. Upon checking out and placing the order entirely by herself, she noticed a small box which read "would you like to add a tip?". You want a tip? Don't smoke in bed. After spitting out the coffee I wasn't even drinking, I collected myself and had one simple thought: why didn't they just raise the price? A consumer would not know about, nor think twice about additional margin added into your pricing. That's business. Years ago, when Kia hit the US market, they couldn't sell cars to anyone. They realized that consumers didn't think you could get a quality car for that low of a price. They simply raised the prices overnight, customers reacted positively, and Kia became a high-volume US car dealer, creating a satisfied customer base. Long story short, just raise the price a few bucks and keep your Promotors on your good side.

Proper planning and budgeting are essential when buying or replacing a vehicle. It's not a purchase we make every year. While no car brand offers high resale value, this is still a top priority for most car buyers. We buy a car for daily use and prioritize a satisfying driving experience. We typically don't consider maintenance costs, fuel expenses, or wear and tear for the next 7 or 9 years. If you can save a significant amount of money on daily fuel and car maintenance, why worry about the car's value after it has served its purpose? Thank you for taking the time to read this.
