After Roper Hospital’s planned relocation to North Charleston in 2029, Roper St. Francis Healthcare will continue to serve the downtown community, where we've been caring for patients since the 1850s. We are exploring locations to maintain our presence on the peninsula. “We are going to make sure that we have areas that are convenient for peninsula residents,” said Dr. Megan Baker, chief operating officer for Roper St. Francis Healthcare. “We aim to serve (downtown) with a level of convenience and accessibility, like in any other neighborhood. Roper St. Francis Healthcare is announcing plans to sell the 11.5-acre property where Roper Hospital is located on Calhoun St. in Charleston to MUSC Health. The transaction will not be finalized until we relocate hospital operations, anticipated for late 2029, to the Roper Hospital Medical Campus in North Charleston. Roper Hospital has always been much more than a building. It's an institution of significant generational importance. Roper Hospital will remain fully operational and will continue to serve patients on the Charleston peninsula until the relocation to North Charleston is complete. In light of recent forecasts for Tropical Storm Debby, Roper St. Francis Healthcare has important updates regarding its operations over the next two days, as of 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, 8/6. To ensure the safety and well-being of our patients and staff, we will be handling emergent and urgent cases only on Wednesday, 8/7. The following adjustments will be in effect: ▪️ All four Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals will continue to manage emergent and urgent cases. ▪️ Moncks Corner Medical Plaza and Roper Hospital Diagnostics & ER - Northwoods will open at 7 a.m. Wednesday. ▪️ All Roper St. Francis Healthcare Express Care locations, except for the Tanger location in North Charleston, will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday. ▪️ Radiology and infusion services will be available as they are considered urgent. ▪️ Roper St. Francis Healthcare Home Health and Hospice services will have a two-hour delayed start on Wednesday morning.
