Adding to the body of research in the field of pediatric neuro-oncology in Africa is goal and a responsibility for my team and I. This study was about craniopharyngioma in Uganda; presentation, management, complications and outcome. Despite being a benign tumor, due to its location, commonly in the parasellar or suprasellar area, near the pituitary and hypothalamus, surgery is often times difficult. These patients suffer from severe endocrine deficits in addition and may end up with panhypopituitarism. Creating awareness about craniopharyngioma and other brain tumors. #childhoodcancers #braintumors #endocrinedisorders #womenineurooncology

🔍 Recent Study Highlights Advances in Pancreatic Cancer Surgery Journal: Annals of Surgery Study Focus: Examines postoperative outcomes for patients with locally advanced (LAPC) and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (B)RPC. Key Insights: Total of 879 patients studied, with 12% LAPC and 88% B(RPC). Post-surgery complications and survival rates are comparable between LAPC and B(RPC). Findings support the viability of surgical intervention in LAPC cases. DOI: 10.1097/SLA.0000000000006289 This study underscores the potential for effective surgical outcomes in what was once considered challenging cases of pancreatic cancer. #HealthcareInnovation #PancreaticCancerAwareness #ClinicalResearch

Preparing for colorectal cancer surgery ten Cate et al. provide real-world evidence from prehabilitation in colorectal surgery. After 3-4 weeks of multimodal prehabilitation, the study demonstrates enhanced physical fitness with particular improvement of aerobic capacity. Improvements were observed regardless of baseline values, though the least fit patients benefitted most. The study lend further support to consideration of the prehabilitation concept in colorectal cancer treatment. https://lnkd.in/dpwXMR_D

Association between surgeon volume and the use of laparoscopic liver resection: retrospective cohort study ➡️https://lnkd.in/dB8-PqTe In this population-based study, surgeon liver resection volume is associated with an increased likelihood of LLR, in patients undergoing hepatectomy for gastrointestinal cancer. Patients cared for by high-volume liver surgeons (greater than or equal to 30 liver resections per year) were 30% more likely to have their hepatectomy performed laparoscopically. This points towards higher liver resection volume, and therefore experience, potentially facilitating the use of LLR in clinical practice. 👏👏👏Tiago Ribeiro, Jesse Zuckerman, Shiva Jayaraman, Alice Wei, Alyson Mahar, Guillaume Martel, Natalie Coburn, Julie Hallet #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery #some4hpb #some4tpl #liversurgery

Some questionable exclusions, but that sure is interesting: https://buff.ly/45vQJWE GLPs (vs. bariatric surgery): --> lower risk of obesity-related cancer --> superior all-cause mortality benefits (despite inferior weight loss) --> fewer patients developing *thyroid* cancer (0.35% vs. 0.88%) #obesity #cancer #bariatric #surgery #GLP1 #thyroid
