Congestion is a hallmark of advanced heart failure and is easy to measure. In our new paper, we show in a real-world collective of predominantly causally treated cardiac transthyretin amyloidosis patients that congestion beyond NT-proBNP has incremental prognostic value and may improve risk stratification. The center’s Medical Director, Dr. Uyen Lam, and team, help patients develop heart-healthy habits following a cardiac event. And they get results! In 2023, the center’s cardiac rehab patients decreased their total cholesterol by an average of 23%, and their low-density lipoprotein (LDL) by 32%, among other statistics. Studies have shown that lowering LDL cholesterol reduces risks of cardiovascular deaths, strokes, and heart attacks, among other major heart health benefits. The American Heart Association just released its 2023 Focused Update on Adult Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) The update covers Cardiac Arrest medications, Temperature Management, Percutaneous Coronary Angiography, Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR), seizure management, and Organ donation. One key update is the terminology change from Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) to Temperature Control, including an updated temperature range. Temperature Control is implemented on patients who have achieved Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) but do not follow commands. AHA recommends selecting and maintaining a constant temperature between 32° C and 37.5° C during temperature control. To learn more: https://lnkd.in/dxNP-ta4

We are happy to share our new paper on the prevalence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest during COVID-19 in Hong Kong. Our findings reveal that the pandemic has significantly impacted OHCA in Hong Kong, leading to an increase in incidence and a decrease in survival rates. This should be my last paper about Covid-19. I have mixed feelings about saying goodbye to this chapter.
