🗣 “There are challenges to [making a better margin], getting the right blend of contract terms being one. A lot of clients are sensible about contract terms and we try and align ourselves to those customers.” That’s the view from Build UK’s Vice Chair Paul Brown, from John Sisk & Son, who shares his thoughts on the challenges facing the construction industry and the need for an appropriate level of risk transfer. Build UK’s recommendation on contract terms identifies six contract terms that should be avoided in order to promote collaboration and realise better project outcomes. ✅ Great news! Richborough Commercial has submitted an outline planning application for the development of a 23.4 acre site in Ellistown, north west Leicestershire. It has the potential to provide up to 29,160 sq metres (314,000 sq ft) of employment development floorspace within Use Classes B2 (general industrial) and B8 (storage or distribution) with ancillary E(g)(i) (business) floorspace, together with habitat creation landscaping and associated infrastructure. The site, located on Midland Road, Ellistown, is adjacent to Bardon Hill and is some 3.5 miles from Junction 22 of the M1. 🏆 Galliford Try Tops Monthly Contracts League The company's major win was the £135m Wigan Galleries town centre redevelopment project. It also secured the second phase of the Dolphin Square Restoration Project in central London, a large 1930s-built residential complex in Pimlico. Developer/contractor S1 Developments ranked second, with a significant residential project to deliver the southern expansion of Edinburgh Park in the Scottish capital for developer Parabola. In the 12-month rolling league of work won, Morgan Sindall continues to lead the chasing pack. However, second-placed Kier is closing in as the two contractors battle to be crowned the winner for 2024. According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, the value of projects secured by the leading 50 contractors fell sharply in November to £2.1bn, down from £3.4bn in October and £4.4bn in September. #Construction

I thoroughly enjoyed the Property Council of Australia event this afternoon at Frasers in King's Park, Perth. The topic was around affordability for developers to be able make a potential development "stack up" and then go ahead build much needed property stock supply for the Perth market. The message in the room was that we are still going to be a period of pain (lack of supply) for the next 2 to 3 years in WA, but then the supply market with time, will start fixing itself. DevelopmentWA advised of the projects and locations where land and property supply is going to be coming on stream in the next 2 to 5 years. Build prices are NOT coming down! What was interesting, was learning that about 35% of the cost of a developing and building new properties in WA is due to government costs and charges (inlcuding infrastructure costs) while in Sydney it is 63%!!!! No wonder the property prices in Sydney are soooo high in comparion.
