Interesting read, shedding light on the interconnected goals of universal social protection (#USP) and universal health coverage (#UHC), emphasizing their mutual dependence! Citing WHO (2024), it notes that social determinants of health play a crucial role, influencing up to 50% of health outcomes, and notes stark inequities. The article outlines four crucial areas for advancing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), alongside two actionable priorities to enhance the impact of social protection in promoting health and wellbeing for everyone. https://lnkd.in/eP2F5m8G

Universal health coverage (#UHC) and universal social protection (#USP) are complementary objectives embedded in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (#2030Agenda). With only few years left to meet the #SDG targets, it is urgent to strengthen those synergies. #Health and #wellbeing should not be the privilege of a few. Equitable and solidarity-based #socialprotection is central to facilitate financial access to #healthcare services and address the socio-economic inequalities that impact on health outcomes. “To promote conditions for wellbeing, Australian governments must go beyond social policy as merely an arms-length contracting of services…Policy-makers must think systemically about what a wellbeing society looks like in practice, require every policy sector to play their role, and engage with active communities.” On our Public Sector Hub, Dr Matt Fisher from the University of Adelaide unpacks what makes good wellbeing policy: https://lnkd.in/gGBW86N6 The issues raised in this article are examined in greater depth and detail in Dr Matt Fisher’s forthcoming book: How to Create Societies for Human Wellbeing – Through public policy and social change. #IPAAPublicSectorHub #Wellbeing #WellbeingPolicy #MentalHealth

A must read. In January I suggested the sector needs to join with other professionals to convince the government to solve the Social Care crisis as a precursor to reinvesting in public leisure and activity. This paper takes that a big step further and shows how we could be collaborators in making lives better. Maybe more from me over the weekend on this and other interesting things going on. Change is happening! https://lnkd.in/e-rcKZGn

Getting things done with impact / public and voluntary sector strategy / policy / host and facilitator / complexity / project and programme leader / Flow Game / All About People partner.
A bit later than planned, but I finally had chance to read through the WHO endorsement on social participation in health, agreed a few weeks ago. A notable, though not necessarily surprising, absence in the list of countries proposing the resolution but otherwise a brilliant step forward for that this has been unanimously agreed and endorsed. It's particularly good to see an emphasis on long-term sustained approaches, addressing inequity, and creating the conditions for equitable, diverse and inclusive participation. It'll be interesting to see how Governments are held accountable for progress. Here's what WHO members are being asked to do: (1) strengthening public sector capacities for the design and implementation of meaningful social participation; (2) enabling equitable, diverse and inclusive participation with particular focus on promoting the voices of all those in vulnerable and/or marginalized situations; (3) striving to ensure that social participation influences transparent decision-making for health across the policy cycle, at all levels of the system; (4) implementing and sustaining regular and transparent social participation using a range of mechanisms supported by public policy and legislation; (5) allocating adequate and sustainable public sector resources in support of effective social participation; (6) facilitating capacity strengthening for civil society to enable diverse, equitable, transparent and inclusive social participation; and (7) supporting related research, and piloting projects/programmes and their monitoring and evaluation to promote implementation of social participation

It’s great to see social prescribing picking up steam around the world 👏. The more local communities realise the power of #community and #nature, the better their health outcomes will be. While facilitating connection between individuals is important to combat health challenges like loneliness, connection to nature and the environment also has a pivotal role to play in helping improve health and well-being outcomes. 🌊 Blue and Green Prescriptions: Nature’s Healing Power 🌊 Wexford Local Development isn’t just connecting individuals; they’re bridging the gap between people and nature. Their focus on ‘Blue’ (ocean) and ‘Green’ (forest) prescriptions is a testament to their commitment to holistic health, harnessing the therapeutic potential of our natural surroundings. 🌳 A Healthier Society, Naturally 🌳 This initiative is more than a health strategy; it’s a movement towards a society where the power of community and the healing touch of nature work hand in hand for better health outcomes. It’s about realising that our environment plays a crucial role in our overall well-being.
