As solar energy grows in popularity, recycling broken and outdated panels becomes essential. An Italian startup, 9Tech, has developed a groundbreaking method to safely recycle up to 99% of solar panel components without releasing harmful byproducts, according to Interesting Engineering. Solar panels, which last between 25 to 30 years, are key in reducing reliance on dirty energy sources. However, they eventually need to be replaced. If not properly recycled, these panels could end up in landfills, causing pollution. 9Tech's method uses a high-temperature combustion furnace to vaporize adhesives and capture fumes, recovering 90% of silver and 99% of copper. This innovative approach minimizes harmful gas emissions and turns end-of-life solar panels into a valuable resource. Francesco Miserocchi, CTO at 9Tech, says, "A photovoltaic panel at the end of its life still has a lot to give. It can be considered a small mine of precious elements." Efforts like 9Tech’s are crucial for making solar energy more affordable and environmentally friendly, paving the way for broader adoption of clean energy solutions. 📦 Natpak - A Sustainable Packaging and Product Solution Provider #natpak #sustainability #sustainablepackaging #packaging #environment #recycling #recyclingplastic #SolarEnergy #RecyclingInnovation #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #9Tech #ClimateAction

Congratulations to Trevor Stuthridge and the team at Cetogenix on being announced as PwC Breakthrough Project Finalist at the 2024 KiwiNet Research Commercialisation awards. Based at Scion in Rotorua, Cetogenix is a global-focused climate tech company unlocking the hidden potential of organic waste streams to deliver renewable carbon resources. The award is in recognition of the Ceto-Boost™ platform which uses the power of hydrothermal oxidation (a process that involves heat and pressure to generate chemical reactions) to precisely deconstruct and ultimately transform waste into useful products, such as renewable natural gas, renewable chemicals, and biomaterials. At scale this technology will be instrumental in replacing our reliance on fossil resources. Enterprise Angels first invested in Cetogenix back in January 2022 and is thrilled to see the progress this cleantech company is making. https://lnkd.in/gV_vuap5 #cleantech #angelinvesting #organicwaste #wasteinnovation #startup

CLIC Innovation manages and facilitates open innovation via ecosystems GreenE² and 4R. GreenE² is ecosystem, which drives green electrification. The key idea of GreenE² is that abundant availability of renewable electricity will enable decarbonization of not only the energy sector but also other industry sectors. Open innovation development projects under GreenE² cover topics like hydrogen, CCU, smart grids, sector integration and system level integration. These ecosystems drive change thus enabling transition and involve necessary stakeholders with a Penta helix approach. 4R (formerly known as 4Recycling ecosystem) started in 2019 and has created significant impact through open collaboration and RDI – 58 M€ RDI funding has been secured to date. Ecosystems too evolve and develop and thus our 4Recycling ecosystem has been adapting its strategy towards new EU regulations. 4R started as an ecosystem to tackle plastics challenge by offering new biobased products to replace plastics and by developing new recycling technologies. Now 4R is looking at all aspects of circulation 4R=refuse, reduce, re-use, and recycle. Read more about how 4R is changing and making a difference (link in the comments). #4R #GreenE2 #ecosystems #openinnovation
