If you are starting your career and a prospective employer gives you a take-home assignment... Do it. That's how I landed my last two jobs. Most candidates don't do them, so you will have an advantage just by having submitted something decent. Quick Reminder - Just because 100 people "clicked apply" on the job application you're looking at, that doesn't mean they all submitted applications. It doesn't mean they are all more qualified than you. It doesn't mean that they are what the company/organization is looking for. Go ahead and apply. I have to be honest, this usually doesn't work out. One of my previous candidates applied for another position that I am hiring for. Most of the time when it doesn't work out, it doesn't seem to work out for other positions I am hiring for. This time it looks like it might be a good fit. The new position I am hiring for has different requirements and responsibilities and that is the reason why I didn't immediately reach out to them. But the candidate did apply for the position and I recognized him right away. My first thought was, I don't think they have any of the right kind of experience because the previous role was different. Because I thought highly of the candidate, I replied and set up a call. After speaking with the candidate, I realized he did have the experience that I and the hiring team is looking for. I don't know who was more excited, him or me? Again, this doesn't happen often but I feel that it is important for any job seeker to understand this one thing. ✅ If you qualify, then apply. If you are the right candidate, you will get noticed and in this case we had a positive history on top of that. If you see that 100+ applicants have already applied to a position, do you still apply? For me, the answer is YES! Here’s why: that could be 98 people who aren’t fully qualified and only 2 who are. If you don’t take a shot, then the answer will always be no.
