🚩 Lessons Learned From Job Scams After last week’s discussion on job scams, I wanted to share some key red flags to watch out for when applying for UI/UX design roles. Your time and talent are precious don’t let these scams take advantage of you! 👻 Ghosting After Submissions Companies disappearing after you submit work is a red flag. Always ask about feedback timelines. ✨ Unrealistic Design Tests Complex, unpaid tasks may be a tactic to get free work. Legitimate tests are small and skill-focused. ❓ No Clear Job Description Vague roles or unclear tasks often signal disorganization or foul play. 🎭 Speculative Work Requests Be cautious of assignments tied directly to their products or services without context. 🔍 Lack of Online Presence No website or reviews? Research the company thoroughly. 💡 Pro Tip: Trust your instincts, if it feels off, it probably is. Share your tips below to keep our community informed! 👇

Ever felt like a job application was a trap? 🎣 Here's a story that might resonate with fellow UX/UI designers and researchers: I received a notification urging me to apply directly for a job. Excited, I started the process. Little did I know, the onboarding was a cleverly disguised trap to create an account without my knowledge. 😡 👉 Onboarding Deception: ↳ Instead of a simple application, I was led to create an account. 👉 Email Confusion: ↳ I had to confirm my email. Naturally, I clicked the second email on top, which was the wrong one. 👉 Technical Glitches: ↳ A bug prevented me from updating my bio, but they insisted on knowing my salary expectations (which, as we know, can vary based on project complexity). 👉 Payment Barrier: After all the hassle of confirming my email and updating my bio, I received a notification that I had to pay to apply. 🤑💰🤯 👎 😒I felt like I was treated poorly, like an afterthought. Stop with the dark patterns. Respect matters. 🙌 Have you encountered similar experiences? How do you deal with frustration during applying for the job? Technical UI Design role one the main focus that I had for 10 years. By building this, first CV (yea, never had CV before, while joining to teams), I found difficulties to describe my experience, especially achievements... There is a lot reasons for that: Some memories just washed away. Some accomplishments weren't noticed by team - I don't know about them, so even if I had them. Somewhere it's just imposter syndrome. Never had a mentor, senior or co-worker on same position and level while worked - to compare, or discuss some decisions, results. That lead me to conclusion that I have too specific, maybe irrelevant experience, and it's feel's like I failed this 10y journey. And if someone ask for advice in this situation like I have now, I would probably say: I don't think that everything is so bad as you see, take some rest, aim small goals, and try to use LinkedIn and ArtStation to share you work, engage, use Amir Satvat page and resource to get help So, here is my non 1 paged CV, and some advice End... 🙃

🎶 Major Thirds in My Job Search Strategy: A New Approach to Landing a UX/UI Design Role 🎨 As I continue my job search in this difficult market, I’ve decided to take a more structured, deliberate approach that combines my creative background as a musician with my design skills. I’ve broken my day into three distinct “thirds”, inspired by the concept of a Major Third in music—where every note is intentional and builds toward a harmonious whole. Here’s how I plan to use this approach: 🔹 First Third of the Day: Custom Applications (Focused and Intentional) I’ll dedicate the first part of my day to researching and applying to selected jobs with a tailored resume and cover letter for each role. No more “spray and pray” method—this is about quality over quantity. I want each application to be a reflection of my skills and passion for the company I’m applying to. 🎯 🔹 Second Third of the Day: Portfolio & Skill Growth (Constant Evolution) The next third of my day will be focused on refining my portfolio and learning new skills. This field is ever-evolving, and it’s crucial to keep sharpening my craft. 📚 🔹 Last Third of the Day: Exploring Opportunities Outside of My Field (Expanding Horizons) The final third will be dedicated to exploring job opportunities outside the UX/UI design world. I’m open to new ideas and roles that might offer fresh perspectives and valuable experience—because innovation often comes from unexpected places. 🚀 Like a Major Third in music, these three elements work together to create a more harmonious and balanced approach to my job search. To everyone that's in this boat with me, I have your back. #UXDesign #JobSearch #CareerStrategy #Portfolio #UXUI #MusicianMindset #Growth #JobHunt #DesignThinking

She Did this to get Hired... 👍 I vividly remember the case of one of my students who despite her talents was finding It difficult to get into the working space. People overlook the fact that your resume isn't just a list of skills— it's your narrative. Highlight your journey, key projects, and what drives your passion for UX/UI. Making my student stand out wasn't really a tough task as We had worked together on enough projects to make her industry-ready. However, the problem was that her resume lacked the spark that attracts recruiters. Firstly, I asked her to start the resume with a concise summary that captures your experience, skills, and passion for UX/UI design in about 100 words. Then, I made sure she included both UX and UI skills because employers often look for candidates who can handle both aspects effectively. Being a developer myself, I understand that potential employers check. the value you can bring to their organization and sets you apart from other candidates. For example: instead of saying "I conducted usability tests”, say "I conducted usability tests in return after receiving feedback from users and improved the completion task rate by 40 percent” When including awards on your resume, be selective and focus on the most relevant. Finally, I asked her to mention her hobbies and her soft skills as well. You can establish common ground or touchpoints with potential employers by sharing a bit about your interests. It helps you stand out by presenting a more holistic view of who you are as a designer, beyond just your technical skills and work experience. In the competitive UX/UI design world, your resume and portfolio are more than just documents—they're your personal brand. Use these tips to craft documents that reflect your technical skills and your unique approach and personality as a designer. Looking to get into UI/UX or for someone who can design? You've found the right person here. Let's connect!

Day 4 of Job Hunt - 10/05/2024🚶♂️ Found a dream company hiring UX designers. Tried all the ways I knew to reach out to people and get the job. [1] Reached around 30 people on LinkedIn. [2] Cold Mailed to the Hiring person and HR mail of the company. [3] Made an ATS ready resume which scored 81 on jobscan.co. Applied on their careers portal and cut short. Then as usual applied to all the companies I found on Naukri, Indeed, Foundit, wellfound, Glassdoor etc etc... Moved on with the Video Editing Course and reading the book! Learning - Reach more to recruiters than jobs So I'm gonna modify my schedule to find good companies on Job portals and reach out to the company employee through LinkedIn. And yea read this if you got time. The future is indeed scary for UX https://lnkd.in/gf_ydqhz

I made it to the third round, but unfortunately, the fourth and final interview didn't materialize for me. I had genuine enthusiasm for the company I interviewed with. I also had the opportunity to connect with some truly wonderful individuals. I owe these interviews to the kindness of a friend who assisted me along the way, and for that, I am immensely grateful. While I've had success in obtaining referrals for many positions, I once again find myself on the outside looking in. Nevertheless, I remain on the hunt for my next adventure as a Senior UI/UX designer, bringing with me 25 years of experience in the field. My goal is to contribute to a company's success and growth, but I never anticipated encountering such difficulty in securing employment. I must admit, I'm feeling disheartened. It pains me to see my family witness my struggle to find a job that can support our modest lifestyle. My heart goes out to those who have been supporting and encouraging me throughout this journey. I've approached every opportunity with sincerity and honesty, yet I've not yet been chosen. At this juncture, I need to take a step back and regroup. Please feel free to leave comments or messages; I will respond in due time. While I may be down, I'm certainly not out. I just need a moment to gather myself. Thank you all for your unwavering support. Navigating this competitive job market can be daunting, and it's crucial to prioritize your mental well-being amidst the challenges. Good Luck out there. Take care of yourselves, and remember to prioritize your mental health while you still have the "Open to Work" banner flying. You have much to offer a company. The right one will come along. #UXDesign #UserExperience #DesignThinking #UIUX #HumanCenteredDesign #UXResearch #UserInterface #DigitalDesign #UXStrategy #InteractionDesign #Usability #UXWriting #ProductDesign #DesignProcess #UserJourney #Accessibility #UXD #DesignInspiration #UXTips #EmpathyInDesign

Hi Everyone, I'd like to share my recent job searching experiences as a UI/UX designer. Many companies have been giving me tasks after interviews, tasks that are often quite substantial. Unfortunately, they don't provide any feedback afterward. Others skip interviews entirely, instead assigning candidates the task of redesigning their website's landing page, a task that can take hours. This approach seems unfair to candidates who are already under pressure. If companies want to assess skills, I suggest giving smaller tasks. The lack of feedback and communication afterward is demotivating. My message to all companies is simple: Please reconsider assigning such lengthy tasks, as they can be a waste of time and effort for candidates and please give feedback to candidates even if they're not selected. Thank you.

📢 A Professional Observation on Current Job Posting Practices As a dedicated UX/UI designer actively engaging in the job market, I've noticed a concerning trend that affects many professionals in our field: 🔍 What I'm observing: • Job postings with no follow-up communication • Positions being advertised solely for market research • Listings used primarily for engagement metrics • Multiple reposts of the same position over extended periods 💡 Suggestions for fellow jobseekers: • Research the company thoroughly before applying • Check the poster's profile and company history • Look for detailed job descriptions and specific requirements • Note how long the position has been repeatedly posted • Document your applications and follow-ups To hiring managers and recruiters: Authentic communication and transparency are crucial for maintaining trust in our professional community. Let's work together to keep LinkedIn a valuable platform for genuine career opportunities. Would love to hear others' experiences and strategies for navigating this challenge. How do you verify job posting authenticity? #CareerDevelopment #JobSearch #ProfessionalAdvice #TransparencyMatters #UXUIDesign #TechJobs
