Earlier this month the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and Hopsteiner UK took brewers on a hop walk at Redsells farm in Faversham, Kent. The day brings brewers, growers and merchants together with experts from across the industry to look at the crop and hear about future plans. This year’s theme was sustainability. The growers are constantly working and learning from each other as to how to make their businesses more sustainable for the long term. We have lost almost 50% of our hop growing acreage in 5 years and to remain viable, hop growers are demonstrating wonderful flair and resilience in this field. Our Hopsteiner hops are helping. Designed to be drought and disease resistant, they require less intervention, have a lower carbon footprint, and therefore the yield is higher per hectare. Working alongside our growers and brewers is what Hopsteiner prides itself on, being proactive to change, managing risks and being world class at innovation. #farming #hops #brewers #beer #sustainability #worldclass #harvest2024 #farminglife #hopsteiner Hopsteiner Deutschland Hopsteiner

There’s a growing desire from consumers to know where their food comes from and the processes it goes through. At Danfood Technology we’ve tried to help shine a light on the misconceptions when it comes to meat processing by sharing videos of the equipment we supply in action. That’s why it’s good to see the government launching a consultation that proposes to add ‘method of production’ labelling on pork and chicken. The new labelling should make the origin of food, and the processes it has gone through, more transparent – so if an animal has been reared abroad but processed in the UK, it will be made clearer to the consumer. There’s also a proposal to extend this to restaurant menus so diners know the origin of what they’re tucking into. Giving people more information so they can make better decisions about what they eat should, ultimately, benefit all of us in the meat industry. If anyone would like to find out more about the hand we play in meat manufacturing, then please feel free to send me a DM. https://bit.ly/4aimIe6

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗶𝘀𝗵? 🐟 My Portuguese roots definitely align me more with the Nordic cold-water cod, especially for gastronomical reasons. 😏 Recently, my curiosity about the origins of the term 'catfishing' got me thinking about our roles in organizations. Originally, catfish were used to keep codfish active during live transportation in fishing boats, ensuring they arrived fresh at the market. The more active and aggressive catfish stimulated the codfish to move, preventing them from becoming static and losing value. Although the term has evolved to describe deceptive online personas, the original concept provides valuable insights into organizational dynamics. Are you the #catalyst, stirring things up, or the one staying #sharp because of the disruption? Embracing these roles can drive #innovation and prevent complacency. Businesses benefit from having their own 'catfish'—those individuals who challenge the status quo and keep everyone on their toes. Food for thought as I navigate new waters...(as a catfish🐟) 😉 #BusinessInsights #Innovation #EmbraceChange"

Innovative Kale Processing Line by Turatti North America – Ratto Bros., Inc., a renowned agricultural facility in Modesto, CA, recently garnered attention on CBS News GoodDay Sacramento for its state-of-the-art kale processing line. This innovative system, custom-designed by Turatti North America Inc. to enhance efficiency and ensure food safety, has redefined industry benchmarks. The process begins with kale being dropped onto a multi-belt conveyor system, where it is meticulously sorted. Non-ideal products are removed before the kale moves through a slicer and into the Venezia model washer. Here, fine particulates and debris are filtered out, preparing the kale for a thorough cleaning. Next, the kale is fully submerged in the Camel model washing system. This advanced system ensures the product is decontaminated and fully cleaned while being chilled through custom heat exchangers integrated into both wash systems. Following the washing stage, the kale is conveyed to a fully automated weigh system before being fed into dual Vortex model dryers. After a precise spin in Turatti's iconic centrifuge, the kale is delivered to a vibratory shaker. This evens out the product before it lands on bi-directional scale feeding inclines, ultimately being placed into bags and packaged for consumers. This cutting-edge processing line manufactured and installed by Turatti North America Inc. not only streamlines operations at Ratto Bros., Inc. but also guarantees that consumers receive the highest quality, safely processed kale. The feature on CBS News GoodDay Sacramento highlights both company's commitment to innovation and excellence in food safety. #EngineeringExcellence #CustomizedInnovation #Kale #ProduceProcessing #BehindTheScenes #CustomerSatisfaction #FoodIndustry #FoodProcessor #Produce #Manufacturer #FoodSafety #NaturalInnovation #Turatti #TurattiNorthAmerica #Salinas #TurattiGroup #Italy #RattoBros #Modesto

2nd day of MBSOIL consoritum meeting - interesting field trips, indicating differences in irrigated vs rainfed and notill versus trad farming systems near Albacete, Castilla La Mancha region.
🔅On the second day, we continued with insightful presentations and concluded with an enriching field trip. 🚜🌾👨🌾 We visited the farms of Casa Nueva, where no-till rainfed annual crops are cultivated, Casa Jara, known for its no-till irrigated annual crops and La Losa, showcasing no-till cover crops in rainfed almonds. ᨒ↟ 𖠰 🍇The day ended with a delightful dinner at Bodega Las Calzadas, a family-run winery. We had the opportunity to learn about the history of winemaking from the family themselves, making it a memorable experience.

It’s days like these that make all the hard work worthwhile….last week marked a special moment for our team, as we shifted our focus from growth, to taste – a completely different perspective to our day to day work at the facility! It was a surprisingly emotional day for the team, listening intently to feedback from highly qualified chefs, wholesalers, and flavour experts. The look on their faces when they saw the lobsters will be remembered by our team for a very long time! This milestone wasn't just a culinary exploration; it was a key deliverable of the 6th work program within the CRCNA Pioneering Tropical Rock Lobster Sea Raft Culture For Northern Australia project. The lobsters sampled were grown out in our land-based raft systems, a proud output of this transformative three-year research project, with lots of learnings. Our expert panel tried the lobsters prepared in various styles, sparking insightful discussions on flavour profiles, product formats, and preferences. Having these industry experts in the kitchen, and at the table was invaluable. Huge thanks to our project partners Honey & Fox, and The Fish Girl Umar Nguyen for designing the day, and a big thank you to our team, the workshop participants and the Chefs at Ardo Townsville, sister property to The Ville Resort-Casino!
