Secret Atlas thank you for all your support on this project, we are delighted it was a huge success and a classic example of utilising vessels ready in the area to carry out research. - YFS are always looking for research projects in the Artic so if you need a vessel please get in touch with us at info@yachtsforscience.com
Yachts for Science 🌟 Exciting Partnership Announcement! 🌟 Secret Atlas is thrilled to announce our collaboration with Dr Paige Maroni @deepseauwa and Yachts For Science on an innovative pilot study aboard the Freya. This groundbreaking initiative aims to deepen our understanding of polar ecosystems, a crucial step in safeguarding Arctic biodiversity. During two Expedition Micro-Cruises, Dr. Maroni successfully deployed advanced technology, including a Baited Remote Underwater Vehicle and a Remotely Operated Vehicle, to explore marine organisms and the delicate benthic structures beneath Svalbard’s waters. This marks Secret Atlas’s first scientific expedition and sets the stage for a long-term research program focused on monitoring marine health in Svalbard’s ocean and fjord environments. Dr. Maroni’s work is pivotal in uncovering new marine species and examining unique benthic structures, addressing the critical gap in literature due to logistical and environmental challenges in remote research areas. Secret Atlas is proud to contribute to this essential conservation effort and looks forward to advancing scientific research in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. #MarineResearch #ArcticExploration #Conservation #ScientificResearch #secretatlas #yachtsforscience #expedition #microcruise #arctic #ROV #ROVpilots #BRUV #uwa #marinescience #polar Sofar Ocean

Think this seagrass meadow is abroad? Think again. Welcome to the Solent! ☀️ 🌱 The UK is home to some beautiful - and huge- seagrass meadows. This super-grass can sequester carbon faster than rainforest. In your face, trees! But a new Blue Marine Foundation report, undertaken with Surfers Against Sewage and Project Seagrass finds seagrass meadows in the UK to in a perilous state - and poor water quality poses yet another threat to these important meadows. Read the report in full here >> https://lnkd.in/eEUVUCFy And happy #WorldSeagrassDay! 🌱🌱 #seagrass #bluecarbon #ClimateSolutions #naturalsolutions #climatechange #marineconservation #ocean #oceanconservation #seagrassmeadows Giles Bristow Leanne Cullen-Unsworth Aisling McGarrigle 📸 by Theo Vickers

Very clever idea, pure out the box thinking
As overfishing, coastal pollution and climate change hazards threaten ocean productivity, coastal communities are innovating to become more resilient and protect local #biodiversity 🚀 Ocean Eye is a unique data collection and financial transfer platform that connects the #tourism industry further with #conservation driven profits - in efforts to build more sustainable and regenerative livelihood options. 🌎 🌟 How it works Through the platform, #tourists or tourism operators including #scubadivers #freedivers #sailors or #resort visitors can report marine wildlife sightings on the platform, triggering micro payments that directly benefit coastal communities. These micropayments not only empower tourists to help conserve the areas they visit, but also create incentives to safeguard vulnerable marine biodiversity. And, they can also support already effective local projects that support coastal communities. 🌊 Creating Impact With support from Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance through the Government of Canada, Ocean Eye will expand their presence in #Indonesia, in efforts to: Expand operations in #biodiversityhotspots Mobilise up to USD $200,000 in micropayments Impact 8,000 people by 2025 💡 Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/e8_pMPF6 Sari Tolvanen #BackBlue #Sustainabletourism #marinetourism #MarineConservation #SustainableTourism #ProtectOurOceans #Biodiversity #ConservationInAction #SIDS" #oceaneye #protectwhatyoulove #scubadiving #snorkling #sailing #ecosystemservicepayments #innovation #sustainablefinance
