While initiatives like the PLI scheme have accelerated advancements in manufacturing, emerging areas such as Automated Testing Stations (ATS) and vehicle scrapping programs require similar government support. By leveraging their influence, dealers can help shape consumer behaviour towards road safety and sustainability, ensuring a greener, safer future for the automotive sector and beyond. Thirty associations representing the multi-brand vehicle aftermarket in Australia (Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association), Brazil (ANDAP - Associação Nacional dos Distribuidores de Autopeças), Canada (Automotive Industries Association of Canada), Colombia (ASOPARTES), India (ACMA India), South Africa (MIWA, Retail Motor Industry Organisation, Right to Repair South Africa, TEPA: Tyres, Equipment, Parts Association), the USA (Auto Care Association, Equipment and Tool Institute (ETI), MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers), and from almost twenty European countries, as well as European associations representing their sectors at European Union’s level (ADPA - Automotive Data Publishers Association, CECRA, CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers, EGEA - European Garage Equipment Association aisbl, FIGIEFA - Automotive Aftermarket Distributors), have gathered in Frankfurt during #Automechanika 2024, for the Right to Repair Global meeting (R2RG). Over the years, the R2RG meeting has increasingly become a crucial platform for dialogue and collaboration among the associations representing the multi-brand #automotive #aftermarket worldwide. More than just a gathering, this forum actively shapes the future of the industry. A central focus includes addressing common challenges. A significant challenge is for example the need to maintain unrestricted access to Repair and Maintenance Information (RMI), technical information, and the freedom to use tools and spare parts. With the advent of #digitalisation and the emergence of software-defined vehicle, new concerns have arisen, including access to in-vehicle generated #data, the vehicle’s operational functions and resources, the growing absence of repair information for #ElectricVehicle #batteries, and the increasing issue of parts captivity. In this context, vehicle manufacturers gain a competitive advantage by controlling the data generated by vehicles. This control impacts the quantity and quality of information available to independent service providers, ultimately limiting digital opportunities for the businesses and restricting the #freedom of #choice for the #consumers. The participants agreed on the urgent need for a fair playing and robust legislative backing to address these challenges across various regions of the world. TC11: Updates to CCC Product Certification Standards for Vehicles and Components in China The National Certification and Accreditation Administration Technical Committee 11 (TC11) has released an announcement with updates to CCC product certification standards for vehicles and their components in China. In line with efforts to enhance the quality and safety of automotive products, China has announced updates and additions to mandatory product certification standards for vehicles and their components. These changes focus on streamlining certification requirements and adapting to newly issued standards. Specifically, the updated standards reflect adjustments to align with the latest versions of regulations concerning vehicle safety, emissions, and component performance. The affected automotive products include among others road illumination-, light-signaling- and retro-reflective devices, safety-belts and restraint systems, child restraint systems, Passenger car tyres, traction batteries of electric vehicles, automotive engines and drive motors, and drive motor systems for electric vehicles. Vehicles and their components generally require CCC Certification in order to be approved for import and sales on the Chinese market. The implementation dates for the mentioned product categories apply to both new and existing vehicles. Manufacturers must ensure that their products meet the regulatory requirements and comply with safety and quality standards in China. The updates aim to simplify certification procedures and address inconsistencies in product evaluations while maintaining safety and quality benchmarks.
