We are pleased to share that Virginia has been named America’s Top State for Business in CNBC’s 2024 rankings! The annual ranking measures all 50 states on 128 different metrics in 10 key categories of competitiveness to determine which states are delivering most effectively on the things that mean the most to business. For the first time, CNBC weighted infrastructure — including availability of shovel-ready sites — as the most important component when deciding on investment, specifically citing the Virginia Business Ready Sites Program as a key factor. Even more notably, Virginia placed in the top half of all 10 categories considered in the rankings, finishing as the No. 1 state for education. Gov. Virginia’s strong rankings in the infrastructure and education categories are particularly notable. This #funding surge comes as states and companies compete for a share of the extensive federal aid. Infrastructure is the focal point in CNBC’s 2024 Top States for Business competitiveness rankings, marking its highest weighting since the study's inception in 2007. The financial commitment from the government parallels efforts not seen since the New Deal, making infrastructure a key topic in economic development circles this year. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the importance of this "infrastructure moment," citing tens of billions of dollars allocated through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. He noted that the recent pressures on supply chains, especially highlighted during the Covid-19 pandemic, have underscored the critical need for robust infrastructure to ensure the smooth movement of people and goods.
