My now ex never understood why we had to sit through the credits of every movie we saw in our 25 year marriage. Simple, I needed to see what studios worked on it and the people…..
Back when I was working for Chyron, I'd annoy everyone when I'd complain about the "jaggies" on the titles of some of the programs...obviously not using Chyron!
I am currently reading a highly regarded industry how to book that is subtitled (Insert) Bible. I am reading this intensive tome to aid in my own creation of an outstanding or legendary product in the category I am aiming to achieve in. As I make my way through the book I am seeing both awesomely excellent examples of the products and some abysmal failures of the products. What strikes me most about the displayed examples is that both have millions tossed at the creation of the final product. MILLIONS $$ - Germane to this thread - when I am with my wife and I point to the poor or awesome details - she becomes aware as well and now we are both vigilant.
The number of times before we got married that my now wife had to listen to me explain in detail that the audio and video were out of sync by a frame or two, or that the cable channel was compressed in low quality and how I could tell.......amazing she still married me.
My current pet hate is the terrible standards conversion on a lot of programmes on some of the satellite channels, frame break-up and tearing. Also anyone remember the horizontal wire lines on Sony Trinitron TVs? Once you saw them, you could never not see them.
Are you not supposed to talk about the tech they're using while the game is going on?
My wife would ask the same question.
What fun is it when you can't constantly blurt out all the things you know about? It's reaffirming our knowledge and devotion to our careers, skills and general pedantic attitude toward the world in general.

5moSo, I’m watching TV with my family and commenting on the horrific compression artifacts and wondering what ridiculously low bitrate was being used and my family’s like “what are you talking about, it looks fine”…. :-)
