As my partners and I attempted to voice our concerns to hospital administrators, we were met with incredible resistance. It caused us to question our roles, worth, and value to the organization. At one point, one of my partners brought up the idea of physician satisfaction. He matter-of-factly mentioned the idea as though it was something measurable. He discussed it as though it was something that might carry weight with the administration. As a physician coach, I frequently speak with doctors about fulfillment and satisfaction. But this particular discussion got me thinking: ❓ What about physician satisfaction? ❓ Does the administration genuinely care about our happiness within our doctor roles? ❓ Is the cavalry coming? Happy Pathologists’ Assistant Day! Do you know what a pathologists’ assistant does? ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) is the guiding principle for radiation safety. In the past, it was reasonable to wear lead aprons. However, cases can be long and complex and the lead apron eventually weighs on the staff causing fatigue and long term musculoskeletal injuries. Combining this fact with new shielding technology on the market that substatially reduces radiation exposure, we really need to ask ourselves, are lead aprons still “reasonable”?

High-Performance Practice Alert ❗ ❗ Never underestimate the POWER of being PREPARED. One of the teams I've been working with, consistently drilling in their specialized space (small treatment rooms with specialized equipment and a stretcher) to prepare for a code, experienced a real-life emergency. Their preparation paid off. I received the call: "We had a code. Can you go over it with us?" A stable, chatting patient suddenly went from talking about Starbucks to experiencing snoring respirations in a FLASH—sudden cardiac arrest! Here's what happened next: The nurse recognized the problem and called for help. The physician immediately started CPR upon arrival. (the physician did compressions!!) The team got the crash cart, applied the pads, identified the rhythm, charged, shocked, and got a pulse... The ENTIRE code took just 1.5 minutes!!! The patient went to the Cath lab and then HOME 🧡 WOW BRAVO!! #beprepared #highperformance #teamwork #codedrillls #debrief

The secret to a more impactful patient experience? Medical scribes. I’ve found that patients feel like I’ve spent DOUBLE the amount of time with them when I have a scribe present. This is because the scribe frees me up to focus entirely on their care. I’m making more eye contact and listening actively. After seeing the impact scribes have on the patient experience, I’ll always have one with me. #scribe #doctor #healthcare #surgeon #patientexperience
