I help women in engineering progress to leadership roles by overcoming feeling stuck, frustrated, or powerless through a structured process that empowers them to take control of their career growth.
“Mom, how did you know you wanted to be a software engineer?” “I didn’t,” I answered her. “I just thought it would be practical and a good profession that matched my skills.” What did I know at her age? Not much. I knew I was good at STEM, and I could probably code. I knew it would provide a good income and be a respectable profession. But was it my passion? No. Do I regret it? No. Would I change anything, knowing what I do today? Maybe. My daughter is an artist, and I encourage her to pursue her passion. It’s not the most practical choice, but I believe that when you’re good at something, you’ll eventually figure things out. Even now, at 50, I don’t have all the answers. I’m still figuring things out. But one thing I’ve learned is that you don’t need to have all the answers to move forward. Following my passion and bringing value to others is what keeps me going. I’m fortunate to do what I love, and even more fortunate to encourage my daughter to follow her dreams. What will she do? I don’t know—and neither does she. But she has endless possibilities ahead, and she doesn’t need to have all the answers right now. One thing is sure: You have many skills and options. There isn’t one single answer, but many. The only way to find your path is to try things out and figure it out as you go. How did you figure out what you wanted to do? Share your story in the comments! P.S. Today was a sunny, beautiful day; we spent a few hours in a beautiful garden across from the Austrian parliament—pure inspiration for my daughter's drawing sketchbook.

Schools are about to close for the summer and students are excited about their summer break. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, on average, students’ achievement scores declined over summer vacation by one month’s worth of school-year learning. Here are 3 tips on preventing that summer slide: 1. Create a routine to stay on track. Help your students schedule regular time throughout the summer to work on reading and math skills. Just 15-30 minutes a day will allow students to keep their skills sharp. 2. Play games that involve math. Play card games or board games that encourage math skills for fun. Don’t underestimate how effective learning through play is. 3. Incorporate technology. There are a plethora of learning apps and computer-based math and reading games that are personalized to meet students where they are and challenge them to grow. Search the different ones and provide incentives for students to complete different levels. Overall, providing a regular schedule, plenty of opportunities for creativity, and a variety of stimulating learning choices will help prevent summer learning loss, so your students are ready to go back to school in the fall. For more tips or practical professional development for educators feel free to contact me! Have a great summer! ☀️

I have been a mentor at Claylab Education Foundation since last year, April 2023. I helped some of my mentees with their career paths and understood their interests, hobbies, dislikes, and likes. Most importantly, I talked to them and enhanced their communication skills and mine as well. I hope applicants apply for the role of mentor to guide their mentees. Sharing something: I was teaching my younger brother a year earlier for his 9th grade CBSE and got to know that he didn't know about many things, like which books📚 should be followed apart from NCERT and, most importantly, how to read this book that is currently going on. Career counseling: I figured out that he is not good at mathematics but has some interest in literature and playing cricket, which is to polish. Math tips: As an example, I told him that you have to understand and practice some important theorems and their converse as much as possible, which could help you score more marks in an exam. Myth: Topper students read books only once and remember all the things in the books 📚, which I used to think in high school. Burst: You have to read it as much as you can because our memory can't remember or understand it all at once. In my case, I believe that career counseling for mentees (students) is more important than forcing them to learn all the things because they may have a keen interest in one thing more. I know another subject must be learned also, but he or she just understands the basics. Yeah, you can understand the background and help them accordingly. Check out my comment as well. Thank you!

I hope to win my first SXSW Panel Picker election, just like my real first election in 1990! And for a great topic: Forty percent of full-time undergraduates work, with the majority working 20-34 hours a week. First-generation college students are much more likely than other students to work longer hours and much less likely to secure career-boosting internships. Vote for our SXSW EDU session in PanelPicker this week, “Learning While Earning: Rethinking Student Employment,” with Ping Shih, Principal, Growth & Strategy at Intuit, Louie Rodriguez, J.D., Vice Provost for Professional Development, Engagement, and Strategic Initiatives for The University of Texas at El Paso, Iris Palmer, Director of Community Colleges at New America and me to explore new models of student work and employment that are disrupting the broken economics of working while in college—and creating meaningful work experience for today’s increasingly diverse college students.
