Call it serendipity? Momentum. The universe saying, "Yes, Cleveland. Now!" The Ohio House of Representatives passed H.B. 2 yesterday, National Girls & Women in Sports Day, providing a significant allocation for "Cleveland Women's Soccer Stadium," a professional stadium that will be built primarily for women's sports. This is the first signal toward public allocation for it. We're calling it game-changing ⚽️ Special thanks to Ohio State Representative Bride Rose Sweeney & Ohio State Representative Tom Patton for their support. #everyonewatcheswomenssports #womenssports #womenssoccer #nwsl #cleveland cc: National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) #nwsltocle

Day 8 #LinkedInSportsChallenge: How are recent trends & developments around diversity in sports ownership reshaping the landscape of sports? The sports industry still lacks diversity in sports ownership. There is so much work to be done. But it is heartening to see an increase in female ownership, in women's soccer specifically (shout out Bay FC). Diversity in ownership offers fresh perspectives and is more representative of our current cultural landscape. In considering how to address this topic, it was fitting to learn that today, September 8, 2023, Diverse Representation is hosting the first-ever Black Ownership in Sports Symposium. https://lnkd.in/gBsJbhjD The good news is that there are organizations and people across industries committed to reshaping the landscape of sports. I hope we continue to see progress, not just in ownership, but within organizations in the roles of CEO, president, SVPs, etc. #sportsbiz #sportsindustry

Remember that flag football ad during the Super Bowl this year? Probably not. We read an article from AdWeek today about the impact that commercial, which we've linked to below, has had on flag football, and particularly that of women's, as a whole. While women's flag football has been around for a while, the ad showed just how developed the sport already is, which in turn, along with other initiatives, has increased high school girls' participation 31% over 2022 levels. Here's a link to the ad: https://lnkd.in/gaWn5F-J

🔥 “I am woman, hear me score.” - Dave Pell, Managing Editor of the Internet My Mother and I have a tradition of listening to NPR when I drive her to various doctors' appointments. We’ve probably clocked hundreds of hours together. This week, we tuned into NPR’s interview of Sue Bird, the best point guard in women's basketball history. She is also a 13-time WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) All-Star with five Olympic gold medals. Two things caught my attention: 1. WNBA players tend to come from marginalized groups and over-index on black and gay players. This may (partly) explain why women's basketball gets less press coverage and has a smaller audience. In other words, racism and LGBTQ bias are leading factors 😡. 2. The top WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) player makes $234k a year, while the top National Basketball Association (NBA) player makes $51 million—that's 218 times his female counterpart 🤯 . Sound familiar? How do we help our female players get their 💰💰💰? It's simple. We need to tune into their games and bring our family and friends along for the ride. More viewers = more advertisers = higher payout for players. 12.3 million people tuned in to watch the NCAA Tournament doubleheader on Monday, many of them specifically to watch Caitlin Clark. Can we turn this moment into a movement? #payequity #womenssports

Welcome to the 1st edition of the 2023-24 Women's Basketball Attendance Report! Tune in weekly for updates. We're only a few weeks into the season but here are a few KEY TAKEAWAYS: 1. 5 of 10 teams held their Top 10 attendance status 2. 1 team jumped 5 spots to join the Top 10: NOTRE DAME. (Maryland fell out) 3. Shifting: Within Top 10 ranking, 2 teams shifted down and 2 teams climbed up a few spots. 4. The Top 3 teams' attendance averages have increased A LOT vs Year Ago. 5. Iowa has closed the gap on South Carolina with capacity remaining in Carver-Hawkeye Areana. (Spoiler alert: Colonial Life Arena holds 3,100 more seats so unless Iowa is adding on to CLA, the Gamecocks could own the top spot) Would love your follow (Heather) if you're into posts on #insights, #brandbuilding, and living a #wellplayedlife And now that we're into college basketball season there will be posts on #sports #sportsmarketing #sportsbiz

The queer stories of women's baseball are fascinating, and this article played an important role in bringing the stories out of the closet into which the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League shoved them for so long. Definitely worth reading! #LGBTQHistory #GayHistory #History

"I'm curious, bear with me. Are you aware that we're making history?" For 175 years, the basic design of the baseball hat has been the same. And that design excludes women and people with textured hair. "But I see women and people with textured hair wearing hats!" Are they wearing a product that doesn't fit or a signature product designed specifically for their needs? 👀 What about the mass amount of women and people with textured hair that have chosen NOT to wear hats because of style, fit, and hair protection issues? 175 years of baseball hat racism and misogyny ends today. Make #HatHistory with Rosebloom Headwear. #Hats #RepresentationMatters #InclusionMatters #DEI #Entrepreneurship
175 years of the same old baseball hat fit ends today. Rosebloom is headwear for the underrepresented. Rosebloom is headwear from a different perspective. We are not hats. Rosebloom is Representation Through Headwear and a tangible advocacy for social change.
