Standard parts, such as fasteners, are one of the smallest, yet one of the most important building blocks of any product. 🔧🚗 To ensure accurate modeling and simulation, Volvo Car Corporation partnered with BETA CAE Nordic to establish a comprehensive fastener library of these standard parts. Using fastener recognition, a CAD representation can easily be replaced with the pertinent CAE representation. “Replacing and adjusting parts such as bolts and rivet nuts for a new release CAE model can suddenly be done easily, in 5 minutes, and with excellent quality. In the Automotive world, here is a list of fatigue analysis you can perform using CAE solvers. 1. Constant Applitude Fatigue- The simplest fatigue analysis possible- Static linear/nonlinear analysis for constant operating loads e.g. brake pedal, gas pedal, pump pressure 2. Block cycle fatigue- Static linear/nonlinear analysis for component level fatigue analysis. These are lab specific tests producing equivalent relative damage as the operating cyclic loads. 3. Vibration Induced fatigue- Random response analysis in frequency(PSD)domain for system level analysis usually applicable for the parts which are mounted using some brackets on sprung.or unsprung assembly. 4. RLDA fatigue- the default method is inertia relief analysis in the time domain. This is still a quasi static method used to analyze a complete BIW or fully trimmed sprung vehicle model. Also, used to analyze all the chassis links. 5. RLDA fatigue using Modal transient- fully dynamic method based on mode superposition(hence, linear) method to capture effect of local structural and trim modes on the overall fatigue life. 6. Dynamic Fatigue-Usually solved using explicit dynamic solver, Applicable for very fast but repetitive loading. e.g. Closure slams. This is the most accurate ( nonlinear, rate dependent, explicit dynamics) method for durability but a computationally expensive method. 7. Harmonic Fatigue, applicable for all the parts mounted on rotating/reciprocating parts e.g. parts mounted on PT, HVAC Do you think I missed out any type of analysis in this list?
