Blackwells has been at the forefront of sustainable business practices for years. In the aftermath of the Canterbury earthquakes, they embraced solar technology for their new Moorhouse car dealerships and service centres. Today, as New Zealand faces global and economic headwinds in the post-covid era, Blackwells is once again leading the charge. Their partnership with OMODA and JAECO offers fantastic technology and value for money, with impressive energy efficiency across their range of vehicles. In particular, the electric versions are notably impressive. And in tough times, the value proposition is vital. On purchase, these vehicles present with outstanding features and value, while their electric motors and battery performance are top-notch. But Blackwells' approach to business doesn't stop there. They also convert new and used ISUZU trucks from internal combustion engines to electric engines. By embracing the trend toward electrification while continuing to support and service traditional petrol and diesel vehicles, Blackwells is demonstrating a broad and balanced approach to business that is both enlightening and extremely positive. Partnering with outstanding companies like OMODA and JAECO has allowed Blackwells to survive and thrive through generations and economic cycles. And with the impressive histories of both businesses, I expect this partnership to be long, successful, and enduring. #blackwellsomodajaecoo

How to electrify HGV fleet in 2024? 🤔
The countdown has begun. Our newest, first of its kind, Side Loading waste collection vehicle is in prep to come to Brighton in early January. This has been quite a journey. Chassis and power, courtesy of Electra Commercial Vehicles and the body is from Ros Roca. Ben at Electra designed the battery packs to fit this body and give it a massive 285kwh battery, enabling us to run for at least two days on one charge. Watch this space for updates!!!

Unhealthy backward vision for Ontario. The solution for car gridlock in Ontario is making it difficult to install new bike lanes ... says obese, unhealthy, rich and no vision burocrat.... so if you are biking and not in your car you are promoting gridlock...? The Ontario government is introducing legislation that would, if passed, require municipalities to receive approval from the province before installing new bike lanes that would result in the removal of lanes for traffic. Municipalities would be required to demonstrate that the proposed bike lanes won’t have a negative impact on vehicle traffic.

Nice to see that this long established issue with micro-particle rubber loss within service of a vehicle tyre finally being focussed upon. I do remember some reference to the calculated weight of rubber micro particles being both lost within the lifetime of a “standard” vehicle tyre and the many vehicle testing houses that actually simulate, measure and report the rubber losses within the lifetime of a vehicle tyre. I recall seeing some reference to the potential annual weight that could be both lost and being washed into waterways through rainfall….its a huge number and you only have to look on the roadside of a busy road to see the rubber micro particles being collected on the roadside. The theoretical vs actual loss will differ based on a wide range of factors such as rubber compound, tyre construction, age of tyre, driving conditions, road type/ surface, vehicle tyre, vehicle weight along with weather conditions etc…. shows the real extent of the potential rubber entering our global waterways and environmental pulluting over the millions of vehicles globally shows the important of this focus by organisations like ENSO 👏👏👏

The UK is the only country in the world to build giant roundabouts on motorways. They are also one of only countries to put traffic lights on roundabouts, which completely defeats the purpose of a roundabout. Can it get worse you might ask? Yes it can! These so-called "improvements" are not just inherently unsafe by design, they also cause clogs in the free movement of traffic due to the speed reductions that need to take place before the roundabout. On top of everything, this project cost enormous amounts of taxpayer money for something that is essentially a flawed idea. Whilst roundabouts (without traffic lights) are efficient in managing traffic in moderately busy areas, they are certainly useless for highways in every aspect. What is the solution? It's simple: cloverleaf or partial cloverleaf intersections are the most efficient type of junctions for highways. Period. All other ideas are just architechs playing around with geometric shapes, which are not suitable for a decent and safe flow of traffic.

Good article here on another piece of proposed legislation that reflects the Premier's devotion to personal vehicle-based transportation at the cost of safety and affordable choices to get around - not to mention another example of restricting municipalities' options as they try to create communities their citizens want. So many people are involved in municipal #transportation and #mobility plans. This is something that impacts our daily lives in a big way.
#Ontario's proposed Reducing Gridlock and Saving You Time Act could restrict #bikelanes, potentially disrupting municipal #transportation plans and endangering #cyclists. Read more about the controversy surrounding this proposed bike lane ban: https://loom.ly/hfP0n8c
