Personal triumph beats public approval. But why? I often see clients who are hungry for success. They want to reach for that next promo, a higher rating, a bigger team, a new round of funding. But internally they harbor a dream for something a bit different. A creative pursuit A personal passion A private curiosity But that would take them off the path of visible success. Or they say that it's for their next chapter, or later in life. But I think that's a mistake. ❌ Because too often we're focused on impressing others. ✅ When we should be trying to impress ourselves. When I look back at my time at Meta, I could tell you about working on: → Consumer apps with 400M+ daily actives → Reviving legacy products into cherished internal tools → Juggling multiple projects with dozens of stakeholders across numerous departments But what impressed me most isn't any of my product work. It's how I did it all while → Building up my coaching practice from scratch to now coaching full-time → Traveling across the country as my wife painted a series of massive murals all over the country (the pic is of us in Oakland) → Developing a resilience framework that has held up over time and continued to be applicable years later Those are the wins that give me lasting joy and authentic pride. So I'm not saying to stop working hard or being achievement-oriented. But rather to STOP trying to impress others so much & START trying to impress yourself more . . . Have you ever run into someone you haven't seen for a while and thrown out the obligatory "how's it going?" or "what's up?" or "how are you?"...just to get in return a disappointing "good, thanks" before moving into useless small talk? 😴 Why don't we try something new? ⭐ Try greeting someone in a way that starts conversation, or surprises them, or gets them thinking in a different way? Next time you run into someone you haven't seen for a while, ask them "How're you growing?" or "What have you been passionate about lately?" See where that takes you! 😉

Here’s the surprising truth….. Behind overcoming obstacles and achieving your dreams… It’s fascinating how some people consider giving up when challenges arise. But why even entertain that thought? The mindset of quitting is for those who don’t reach their goals. True champions embrace these hurdles, seeing them as signs of growth and steps toward their next level. I’m an eternal optimist, believing that setbacks are just setups for comebacks. From experience, things usually do improve and often surpass expectations. So, let’s ditch the notion of giving up. Welcome the struggles as part of your journey. Keep pushing forward, and let’s celebrate those breakthroughs together. Remember, you have a solid support system, count me in! Art of the Project Kick-off: More Than Just a Meet and Greet! 🤝 I recently had the pleasure of being part of a kick-off where everything just clicked. Here’s my take on what made it work: 1️⃣ Do Your Homework So here’s the thing: Crucial information is rarely in plain sight. If you wait until the kick-off to learn about your stakeholders, you’re already behind! I dug deep, asked internal team members the right questions, and pulled up every relevant piece of information I could find. I understood the context, the priorities, and could tailor my approach from the get-go. 2️⃣ Beyond the "Hello!" While introductions are important, a successful kick-off meeting accomplishes much more. It's an opportunity to demonstrate preparedness and subject matter expertise, instilling confidence in all participants. Go beyond the intros and show up with a game plan. Share the goals, timelines, deliverables, and how you’ll work together. 3️⃣ Team Synergy: A Cliché, But So True!  Yes, “Teamwork makes the dream work” is a cliché, but only because it’s true! It’s never a one-person show. Make sure to align internally, share content, and get everyone on the same page. Someone wise once told me: “Sharing builds confidence.” And they were right—having the team’s back made a world of difference! In consulting world, project kick-offs are about making a lasting first impression. They set the stage for what’s to come — good or bad.
