Q: Of all the sites, locations, or Buildings That You Have Managed, which is Your Favourite, Most Challenging or Obscure? _________________________________________________________________________ Good morning and happy Thursday to my network. Following yesterday’s fascinating site visit to a prominent events facility in Edinburgh. It got me thinking. Working in Facilities Management provides some unique experiences that I like to think most other form of work wont. Almost a peek behind the curtain. I have been fortunate throughout my career to have experienced some absolutely fantastic workplaces and environments (like yesterdays). Whilst all are unique some of my favourites are: 🏭 Managing FM Site Services at Sellafield in Cumbria and whilst the entire site was uniquely amazing, certain processes and site specifics were mind blowing. Not to mention the environment and Ecological challenges it presented. 🚄 Seeing how signalling control centres operate and their high levels of security and resilience for Network Rail was something else along with the complexity of what they do. 🛬 The fascinating world of Rolls-Royce Aerospace and notwithstanding the sheer engineering excellence but how they manage, design, manufacture and assemble aero engines across the UK. 🏭 Countless secure manufacturing facilities from IT to defence along with corporate offices that cater for a selection of senior UK VIP’s. ❓ So, what’s your favourite workplace or unusual venue that you have been fortunate to support or manage.

A selected quick fact from the jobs report: Railroad retirees are covered by the Railroad Retirement System, which is funded by the railroads and railroad employees, with rail carriers bearing the majority of those costs. Career railroaders (those who are 60+ years old and have served at least 30 years) receive over two times as much retirement income as the average Social Security recipient. In 2022, nearly 500,000 beneficiaries received $13.5 billion in benefits from the Railroad Retirement System.
Association of American Railroads just released their Rail Jobs Report, showcasing how rail careers are essential to America’s economic success. Our dedicated workforce moves the goods that keep business and services running smoothly. #Railjobs deliver more than meets the eye; our employees are among the highest-paid in the nation. In fact, only 8% of U.S. employees work in other industries with higher total compensation. Learn more at www.AAR.org/Jobs-Report

For those that are new to the industry and trying to understand what CP7 Means for the Next 5 Years! As we kick off this week, let's talk about something that will shape the future of our railways: Network Rail's Control Period 7 (CP7). This strategic plan sets the stage for the next five years, from 2024 to 2029, and promises significant improvements and investments for railway workers and the public alike. CP7 sees a massive £53 billion investment, aimed at enhancing the reliability, capacity, and safety of the UK's railway network. This unprecedented funding highlights Network Rail’s commitment to modernising critical infrastructure and improving the daily experiences of millions of passengers and staff. 🚄💼 Here are some key projects: - ✅ **£12 billion** dedicated to replacing ageing tracks and signalling systems, ensuring smoother and more efficient journeys. - ✅ **£8 billion** for station upgrades, including accessibility improvements to make travel easier for everyone. - ✅ **£6 billion** focused on electrification projects to support greener, more sustainable transport options. These investments are not just numbers on paper; they represent real, tangible changes that will affect every railway worker. Expect better training opportunities, improved working conditions, and more significant support for your professional development. Let's foster a discussion. How do you feel CP7 will impact your work life and daily operations?
