I had a great time at NERUCA - North East Regional Urgent Care Association conference learning from the best in class and sharing my own expertise on #pocus. I was AMAZED at the number of trees I saw from my room at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT. Check out the pic! Thanks again to the #NERUCA team (Kelly Elliot, Luis de la Prida, Managing Partner, Markintosh Barthelemy, MD, MBA among many others!) for putting the event together and having it run so smoothly. I’d like to share a few takeaways: 1. Multiple speakers, including Brandon J. Robertson, April Gillam, and Dr. Barlow from AFC Urgent Care addressed the following: Patients are consumers, and they expect overall high-quality experience, from booking an appointment, to making payments, to getting their results. Leveraging technology is key to ensure a smooth sailing and increasing the likelihood of your patients returning to your facility. 2. Alan Ayers spoke on the “degradation” of scope of care and presented data on significant decrease in patients with lacerations and fractures over the last 13 years. This also corresponds to larger proportion of midlevels, instead of docs, staffing the urgent care centers. All of this, in turn, leads to decreased reimbursements and pressure to see larger volumes to help ends meet. Now, #urgentcare community, how do we win back some of those patients that require procedures and higher level of care? 3. There is plenty of demand for urgent care centers in certain sectors. Alan shared that rural urgent care centers are the fastest growing sector and make up 26% of 2024 de novos centers across the country. 4. Tammy Mallow shared insights on how price transparency data can be leveraged during contract negotiations with private payors as well as used for making informed decisions on introducing new services (like #pocus!). Some other important things to request from payors: APP discount for fee-for-service contracts, escalators, and facility credentialing (instead of individual credentialing). There was so much more! I am loving my role of showing the value of #pocus to the #urgentcare leadership and clinicians and am looking forward to more uniform adoption of this tool into urgent care practice to improve #patientcare, #patientexperience, and revenue. #urgentcare #ultrasound #meded #urgentcare

Decentralized Wound Care: Rethinking the Approach 💡 How can we reach more patients and treat more #wounds, while spending less? It's not about doing more with less but achieving more with fewer resources. A subtle nuance, but a direction we are all going to move toward. This area of discussion is getting louder by the day. I discussed this earlier this week, and this was also included in a solid interview with David Navazio of Gentell. This goes beyond traditional approaches like #RPM or #RTM. It's about reimagining the entire ecosystem. As reimbursement drivers shift, (thin HBOT), a large piece of the economic picture of a wound care center changes, but the patient’s need does not. How do we decentralize woundcare? More than just mobile delivery. Think.bigger. Incorporate Primary Care, Homecare/Home Health, and Podiatry -> link referrals. Pull in multiple specialists (RN, CWON, LVN, PA, PT) as needed. Include a mix of OTC as well as direct-to-patient delivery. This won’t work for all patients. Wound care centers and surgical wound interventions – are still very essential. But for many patients… Decentralized woundcare. Spending less and doing more. Following the lifting of the Public Health Emergency referral waiver, we believe that coordinated care through Primary Care Providers (PCPs) is essential for optimal patient outcomes. To facilitate this process, we encourage all providers to connect with us through LeadingReach, a web-based platform designed to streamline care coordination. Here’s what you need to know: ✅ Referrals: WellMed PCPs will submit referrals through the LeadingReach system. If a specialist does not receive a referral, they should request one from the PCP. ✅ Validating Referrals: Specialists must check the LeadingReach system to confirm that a referral has been approved before scheduling any appointments. ✅ Claims Submissions: Ensure that the referral number from LeadingReach is included in all submitted claims.
