Why do legal professionals take on contract work? Here’s a real example. A product counsel with 15 years of experience spanning Am Law 50 firms and Fortune 500 legal departments experiences a family health crisis. They can no longer manage the grind of a full-time in-house counsel schedule while helping care for their family member. So they resign from their big (really big) in-house position, spend a few months stabilizing their personal situation, and decide they’re ready to work again. But only for 25 hours a week because they’re still caring for their loved one too. And they want to do work that’s interesting to them – advising on product, privacy, and IP matters. Within a week of joining our network, they have multiple interviews for this kind of work. They’ll be working on a long-term, flexible assignment at a well-known company advising on a product launch soon – earning $175 per hour. Some version of this situation has probably played out thousands of times at Priori and similar platforms. People don’t do this work because they can’t hack it in permanent employment. They do it because everyone, even talented lawyers, legal ops professionals, and paralegals need access to opportunities that meet them where they are in their lives.
