Russian forces in Ukraine have employed a multi-pronged strategy to counter Ukrainian drones, as detailed in a comprehensive article by defence analyst Sam Cranny-Evans. The strategy has included the targeting of infrastructure that extends drone range, deploying both homemade and commercial electronic warfare (EW) systems at tactical levels, and using sniper teams to target larger drones. The shift has marked a significant departure from the traditional reliance on battalion- and brigade-level EW systems – especially as drone usage escalated. Tactically, the Russians have integrated systems such as the Harpoon-3, a rifle-like C-UAS weapon capable of jamming drones within a 1-3km range. For wider area suppression, they have utilised more extensive EW systems such as the R-330Zh and Polye-21. On Sunday, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) unveiled the modernization of its aerial division, showcasing Turkish we*aponry, including drones, in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Father of the Nation. A two-and-a-half-minute documentary titled "Pakistan Air Force on the Path to Modernization" featured the Akıncı and Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs), as well as JF-17 Block III and J-10C military jets, recently incorporated into its arsenal this year. The JF fighter aircraft series is a collaborative effort between Pakistan and China. In a statement, the Pakistan Air Force emphasized that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah played a crucial role in uniting oppressed Muslims and guiding them towards the establishment of a separate and independent homeland. The video underscored the tireless efforts of Jinnah, stating that the nation breathes in a free state today due to his visionary leadership. Earlier in the year, Pakistan's secretary for defense production, Humayun Aziz, mentioned that Turkey and Pakistan would enhance their collaboration, particularly in the fields of unmanned aerial vehicles and advanced fighters. “The development follows the failure of an attempt to prove that unmanned armed systems could be a fully capable replacement for combat helicopters.” The IDF’s decision is a stark counterpoint to Marcus Hellyer’s rather thin argument that AH are a “stranded asset”, and refutes David Shoebridge’s unsupported assertion of obsolescence based on the rise of UAS. Greece recently announced they will procure AH-64E, and Poland signed for 96 last year. The Czechs have just started operating AH-1Z. Turkey is pressing forward with their indigenous Apache equivalent, Italy has ordered T249, France is developing Tiger 3, Germany is actually downsizing to H145, and China is well underway with development of x-20 to supplement z-10 and z-19s which it will retain in service. Australia should ignore Mr Hellyer and Mr Shoebridge’s recommendations on this subject. Pretty much every other country already has.

🙌 CAE Defense & Security has signed a contract to provide in-service support for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s future MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones.
