The recent article on de Architect NL highlights the project ROEF dakpark (rooftop park), a park located on top of a parking lot. "ROEF does not organize the DAKPARK as an end in itself, but as a means. It is necessary to prepare Amsterdam for climate adaptation. The highest park in the Netherlands shows that – right above our heads – there is unused space with tremendous sustainable potential. Ultimately, ROEF aims to create the largest public rooftop park in the Netherlands, where you can walk from roof to roof, to roof via sky bridges." We’re excited about the potential of transforming rooftops into public spaces while integrating climate adaptation solutions. The vision of creating a network of interconnected green rooftops with walking routes between them is something we believe should become a reality soon. It’s time to rethink how we use our urban (unused) spaces and make this happen!

Dérive: Nature Driven Dialogues 🌍 🌿 As part of the IABR 2024: Nature of Hope, Team Dérive kicked off a long-term project focused on making Rotterdam a truly nature-inclusive city. 🌱 We’ll reflect on past efforts and explore how to make nature-inclusive developments more impactful while identifying blind spots in the city’s approach. 🌳 While hopeful progress is evident, challenges remain—like the lack of mandatory nature-inclusive design in Rotterdam (unlike Amsterdam or Utrecht). This initiative dives into the rich dynamics of urban biodiversity, emphasizing the vital connections between the city’s periphery and its quieter, darker spaces. 📍 Team: Margot De Caster, Hedwig van der Linden, Kevin Westerveld & Robin Ringel Watch the full video’s here: https://lnkd.in/ewSNSwSU 🌿 #NatureOfHope #IABR2024 #NatureInclusive #Rotterdam #IABR #derive

🍎 During the #GOCIRCULAR stopover in New York for the Transat CIC, we sat down with Kai-Uwe Bergmann, FAIA, Partner at BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group, who are a past recipient of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction Awards, to discuss innovative design approaches for creating circular and climate-resilient cities. 🗨 "With the BIG U project we're not only looking for ways to build back what was destroyed during the storm, but also to build something that is resilient and would show a smarter way of building." 🌊 Many coastal cities such as New York are vulnerable to the consequences of a changing climate, so we need to ensure our cities are resilient to these changes. 🔗Here's how we can build resilient cities already today: https://ow.ly/CSEm50S6CRt #GOCIRCULARbyHolcim #ClimateResilience #BuildingProgress

We’re thrilled by the turnout and interest at the City of Amsterdam for our presentation on the "Bagger" Dewatering Rotterdam Pilot Project results! Your enthusiasm and insightful discussions made this event a success. Here’s a quick recap of our key highlights: 🔹 15% increase in solid content in just 12 weeks—compared to 0% improvement with conventional methods. 🔹 60–80% of the surface of treated ponds became walkable soil, compared to just 25% for untreated ponds. 🔹 Soil with a well-structured, non-anoxic profile, consistently populated by plant roots—ideal for reuse in urban projects. 🔹 Cost-effective and eco-friendly: Our solution increased the capacity of sediment depots without higher environmental or financial costs. This project proves that nature-based engineering isn’t just sustainable—it’s efficient, scalable, and impactful. 🌿 🎤 Special thanks to City of Amsterdam, Het Circulaire Bagger Consortium and Eva van Eck and Eva Aarts for hosting and to all attendees for your engagement. Let’s continue the conversation and create greener cities, one project at a time! 🌍 Missed the event? No worries—read more about our innovative approach here: https://lnkd.in/eAiYbAwY
