End of year giving can often feel like crisis comms… It shouldn’t. Yes, you have goals to meet and metrics to evaluate, but in terms of impact and relationship-building, those things don’t matter all that much. In an ideal world, end of year is just another moment of impact. Your giving strategy should rarely, if ever, heavily revolve around moments like the holidays and/or Giving Tuesday. What if you used Giving Tuesday as a stewardship opportunity, differentiating yourself from thousands of other orgs sending multiple immediate appeals? Do you have a vision for 2025? How are you bringing your donors (at all levels) into that plan? There’s no prescription, but it stands true that a great Q1 starts with a solid Q4, and crisis comms are anything but a solid foundation. #nonorofit #fundraising

I know a nonprofit that put all their efforts into one big Giving Tuesday push. They got caught up in the hype, dumped a ton of time and money into ads and campaigns, but when December 31st rolled around? They had nothing left in the tank. Why’s that a problem? Well, nonprofits typically raise 17-31% of their online revenue in December alone, with the bulk coming in those final days of the month. Imagine missing out on one-third of your year’s revenue because you blew your energy on one day. If your organization is only focused on Giving Tuesday, you’re missing a huge opportunity for sustainable giving. The fix? Don’t let your big push fizzle out. Keep your momentum going through the entire holiday season—plan for steady, consistent asks that build up to those last few days.

As business leaders, funders, and mentors, I believe it is important that we embed a culture of giving, volunteering, and impact investing into our companies' ethos to support a future of generosity. As Jerre Stead shares, "Generosity that results in lasting change needs to be approached from multiple angles—philanthropic giving, impactful volunteering, thoughtful investments, and strong advocacy."
The Generosity Commission’s report, Everyday Actions, Extraordinary Potential: The Power of Giving and Volunteering, was just published. The report analyzes current trends and offers nine actionable recommendations to inspire and strengthen everyday giving and volunteering with nonprofits. "We served 10,000 meals last year." Important stat, but does it move you to act? Now try this: "James hadn't eaten in two days when he found our shelter. Today, he's not just a regular - he's volunteering in our kitchen." At Go Forth Marketing, we know nonprofit success lies in balancing data with human stories. Your numbers matter. Your stories inspire. We help you leverage both. #NonprofitMarketing #Storytelling #MarketingStrategy
