A new study, which explores whether consumers would pay more for #animalwelfare, asks what they care about more: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, or making animals' lives better. https://lnkd.in/ebAKJR4X

Optimising the use of resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are two levers on which our Phodé Animal Care team focuses its daily efforts. We are therefore embarking on research programmes to develop effective solutions to support the decarbonisation of the animal production sector. Today, we released our 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, underscoring our commitment to advancing ESG-related matters through our Healthy Purpose™ Pillars - Healthier Animals, Healthier People, Healthier Planet and Healthier Enterprise. The report showcases a range of internal initiatives and strategic external partnerships, all aimed at demonstrating how healthier animals can positively impact global issues such as food security, mental health, social isolation and environmental sustainability. We're at the forefront of sustainable innovation, transforming animal care for our customers. From launching the first treatment for canine parvovirus - one of the deadliest diseases in puppies - to pioneering new products while helping build marketplaces that support emissions reduction goals. I'm joining World Animal Protection's delegation here at the Bonn Climate Conference this week, calling for climate solutions that build an equitable, humane and sustainable food system. Addressing emissions from industrial animal agriculture is crucial for a sustainable future. Here are key focus areas for #ClimateAction: 1. Encourage subsidy redirection away from industrial animal farming towards kinder and more sustainable food system 2. Accelerate protein shift, particularly in high meat-consuming countries. Update dietary guidelines and reform procurement policies to reflect sustainability goals. 3. Promote deforestation-free supply chains: Tighten regulations on deforestation linked to animal feed and meat/dairy imports. Sustainable supply chains are vital to climate and biodiversity action. 4. Strengthen animal welfare: Enhance #AnimalWelfare standards and environmental regulations within existing animal farms to constrain its harmful effects. 5. Commitment to sustainable practices: Cap and reduce factory farming footprint through NDCs and NAPs and advocate for a global moratorium on new industrial farms by 2030.

World Animal Day: A call to rethink how we live, eat, and treat our planet’s creatures On World Animal Day, we are reminded of the profound connection between human life and the wellbeing of animals. The choices we make—what we consume, how we build our cities, and how we interact with nature—have a direct impact on the creatures that share our world. To truly honor animals, we need to embrace a more sustainable and ethical way of living, one that promotes harmony between people, animals, and the environment. Rethinking our diet: The global food system has a huge impact on both animal welfare and the planet. By embracing plant-based or more sustainable diets, we reduce the pressure on natural ecosystems, minimize animal suffering in industrial farming, and decrease our carbon footprint. Every small change in our eating habits can make a significant difference. Building a sustainable future: Whether it's creating green spaces in urban areas or preserving natural habitats, our built environments need to become more inclusive of the wildlife around us. Green buildings, wildlife corridors, and better waste management help protect animals from the dangers of urban expansion and pollution. Ethical treatment of animals: Beyond dietary and environmental changes, we need to ensure the ethical treatment of animals across industries, from farming to fashion. Cruelty-free products and responsible sourcing are essential steps toward a more humane world. Every species on this planet has a role to play, and their survival is tied to ours.
