Woodlands Dairy won the prestigious Gold Pack Award for its innovative tethered caps on First Choice ESL milk cartons, marking a significant achievement in sustainability. This success is the result of a strategic partnership with DLPG (Diversified Liquid Packaging Group) and Svalinn. Marisa Maccaferri, Marketing Executive at Woodlands Dairy, emphasised that the award highlights the company's commitment to sustainability and innovation. The tethered caps, made from 100% renewable materials, enhance recycling by staying attached to cartons, reducing waste and promoting a circular economy. Leashni Kissoon from DLPG noted that the collaboration celebrates sustainable innovation, with the CueCap Eco+ solution contributing to improved recycling efficiency. Woodlands Dairy continues to focus on sustainability, planning to expand the use of renewable materials and collaborate on eco-friendly solutions. The company also invests in sustainability initiatives like water recovery and reducing carbon emissions. #RES_Article New paper published recently in RES journal (Volume 17) by Phuong-Mai Nguyen, Carole Berrard, NATACHA DAOUD, Philippe SAILLARD, Jérémy Peyroux, Olivier Vitrac Title: Assessment of chemical risks and circular economy implications of recycled PET in food packaging with functional barriers Abstract: In response to regulatory demands for sustainable practices, there has been a significant increase in the use of recycled materials in food packaging, particularly when incorporated behind functional barriers. This study, conducted as part of the “ABA Modeling” project, evaluates the migration of contaminants from the non-decontaminated, recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) B-layer, which is sandwiched between two virgin A-layers in three-layer trays. The study aims to assess the long-term implications for food safety within the context of the European and French circular economy frameworks. Using a migration modeling approach based on “worst-case” scenarios for ten contaminants – similar to methodologies employed for decontaminated direct food contact PET – the levels of chemical residues are analyzed and compared. Findings highlight the significant impact of the co-extrusion process on the suitability of rPET for food contact. Additionally, the study discusses the risks and challenges for the recycling sector, particularly in managing chemical contamination during mechanical recycling. Recommendations are provided to improve industrial practices, emphasizing the importance of ongoing monitoring to ensure the long-term sustainability of these recycling practices. We are thrilled to announce that Agrecovery's Green-farms Product Stewardship Scheme has been officially accredited under the Waste Minimisation Act (2008). This means we'll be creating even more recycling opportunities for NZ's hardworking farmers and growers. The GPSS will tackle farm plastic waste head-on, focusing on four primary streams in the first 3 years of the scheme being in effect: agrichemical containers, bale wrap and silage sheets, small seed and feed bags, and large 1T and 500kg fertiliser sacks. The GPSS has also been accredited to incorporate Animal Health and Household Pest and Weed plastic packaging. With a phased approach, the scheme plans to significantly broaden the range of recyclable plastics covered by the GPSS in the next 3-7 years. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gSMM26Dm
