At the recent National Farmers' Federation Leadership Summit, our Founder and MD Robbie Sefton AM joined an insightful panel on how the agriculture sector is tracking towards becoming a $100bn industry by 2030.
The discussion revealed both exciting opportunities and significant challenges that will shape our path forward.
🌱 Opportunities:
The adoption of agtech and artificial intelligence presents a massive opportunity for attracting young talent to the industry, and increasing efficiency.
The sector must unite on common issues to strengthen our collective voice, particularly in promoting the critical role farmers play in sustainability.
Progressive farmers are leading the charge by enhancing their business skills, investing in their teams, and pursuing growth, providing a model for others to follow.
🚧 Challenges:
Freight bottlenecks and high transport costs continue to impact profitability, both domestically and in export markets.
Perception and communication remain hurdles. If we want to attract fresh talent to the sector, we need to change how farmers are perceived by urban consumers and actively engage in respectful, ongoing dialogue.
Interest rates and rising costs are hitting highly geared young farmers hard, making profitability and sustainability increasingly difficult to achieve.
