Our EDI team and race equality network recently organised an event to celebrate South Asian Heritage month, called ‘Free to be me’. Staff from around the Trust were able to hear from two keynote speakers; Harprit Hockley, Director of Culture and Organisational Development at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and Natasha Ramnarine, Transformation Lead for Community Services, South East London Integrated Care System – as well as experience authentic South Asian cuisine and explore an exhibit representing our own South Asian staff. Onika Patrick-Redhead, Head of EDI at Royal Papworth, commented: “The impact of the event went beyond mere representation; it was a powerful demonstration of the unique perspectives and invaluable contributions of South Asians to our healthcare system. "It underscored the importance of intersectionality in our EDI efforts, recognising that individuals navigate multiple identities simultaneously. “The stories of both our speakers highlighted both the progress we've made in diversity and inclusion and the work that still lies ahead. I observed colleagues from various backgrounds engaging in meaningful dialogue, bridging gaps in understanding, and fostering a more inclusive environment. “Reflecting on the event, I recognised its ripple effects: inspiring other underrepresented groups, encouraging allies, and potentially influencing policy and practice here at Royal Papworth.” 💙 #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #EDI #Culture #RoyalPapworth
