💭 Here are a few of the most powerful thoughts I’m reflecting on from Dayton Moore’s session: Make an advanced decision. A decision in the moment is a reaction. Take no credit for the wins but all of the responsibility for the mistakes. If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not being aggressive enough. Give people more than they expect. Don’t buy into fear and don’t let perfection paralyze you. Model the behavior you want to see. Be real with your team. You never grow out of the need to practice the fundamentals and build the muscle. You won’t be perfect, but we serve a perfect God who modeled perfect leadership in Christ. 💪

I know at times we get so busy we struggle to find time for the important things in life. One of Mainfreights core pillars is “philosophy” under this pillar sits two lines that explaines the Books In Homes Australia program. ~ We are here to make a positive difference, not just a dollar. ~ We care for our customers environment and community. 1. Why do you do what you do? 2. Is work just a routine that requires you to process with indifference the scheduled tasks in the order they are presented to you? My instinct is that most of us will struggle to produce a rational & concise answer to 1. Many will not recall the inspiration or action that prompted the start of a habit or career. Many of us have specific tasks that are more about muscle memory than a meaningful change. Perhaps we should reflect upon how our part will be received from us and whether the recipient’s need is satisfied by our contribution. Whether making a request or producing a material change or influencing a thought we can make a difference. If we think about how our customers receive the product of our labour we may become the positive influence that we need. Inspiring the world to produce better outcomes is not just something for academics & medical professionals. We all have the power to improve the day for those that we interact with.

I spy with my little eye something familiar in this picture- front and center! I love seeing my book, Support and Retain Educators of Color, used in the context of pushing forward institutional change. I wrote this book not as a cute intellectual exercise but a how-to guide for education and organizational leaders to cultivate workplaces that affirm and retain educators of color.
