**The Adaptation of *Le Bureau des Légendes* is Out on Showtime – But Will It Live Up to the Original?** The highly anticipated American adaptation of the French TV series *Le Bureau des Légendes* is now streaming on Showtime under the title *The Agency*. With a stellar cast including Michael Fassbender, Jodie Turner Smith, and Richard Gere, the show has garnered an impressive 88% on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter, signaling strong audience approval. As a fan of the original *Le Bureau des Légendes*, I can't help but wonder how the U.S. version will measure up. The French show was lauded for its authentic portrayal of the gritty and complex world of undercover intelligence work, often diving deep into the psychological toll and subtle dynamics of espionage—elements that felt both grounded and realistic. But here’s the question: will these nuances be lost in translation? With a bigger budget and Hollywood talent, there's always the risk that the show might lean more into action and spectacle, leaving behind the sharp, character-driven storytelling that made the French version so compelling. I’m curious to hear from others—how do you think *The Agency* will compare to *Le Bureau des Légendes*? Will the American adaptation stay true to the original's realism, or will it veer into blockbuster territory? https://lnkd.in/g7Ed-jD6 #TV #Espionage #SpyThriller #LeBureauDesLegendes #TheAgency #MichaelFassbender #Showtime #Entertainment #Adaptations #Skydance

The audience for any content is what matters the most. And we’re watching not just a technology shift in the media landscape, we’re watching companies forgetting to keep the focus on the audience (customer). Thie upheaval in the entertainment industry has been driven by technical changes taking place in the context of larger societal trends. Watching the explosion of BlueSky this week shows that the algorithmic structure will matter to people. Streamers are seeing churn in part because their referral engines and user interfaces aren’t working for folks. You can’t find what you are looking for. You don’t easily see new seasons of shows you have already loved. Marketing still matters. UX still matters. And both start with understanding the audience. Once you have a family and kids, no one has time or attention space to do their own curation. You’ve got an hour before bed and you just want to be told a good story. But if a platform isn’t showing you what you want without making the choices simpler to make (see decision fatigue), you don’t see the value on the platform. People care about the show, not the platform. (Did you care if it was ABC or NBC if you are old enough to remember traditional broadcast and cable networks?) And the socials aren’t doing much better. Ok, IG and TikTok are doing better. Facebook lost it in the US, except for elderly boomers. If you’re under 55, you’re there because you have to be, have a group you need to participate in, or for Marketplace. BlueSky looks great but is long-term TBD and Twitter (no, I won’t use the other name) is the InfoWars replacement. As privacy takes a step forward because that thing called Project 2025, the high-value-to-advertisers (education, income) eyeballs will be harder to reliably get unless you understand the audience you are looking for. And getting that audience isn’t going to happen on algorithms alone. It’s going to take good, creative marketing. Eventually, simplicity will win. I just want to sit down and not have to work for my entertainment. We’re all working way too hard as it is. End rant. Let me know if this perspective works for you and applies. I usually don’t post this stuff here, but those of you who know me IRL know that I’ve been analyzing this business for decades but keep it to myself. I love Patrick Caligiuri’s thoughts and analysis. It always triggers my thinking. #socialmedia #Youtube #netflix #streamingmedia #algorithms #television #movies

ITV reported an 8% drop in group revenue to £2.74 billion for the nine months ending September 30, 2024, as growth in total advertising revenue was offset by a 20% decline in ITV Studios revenue impacted by the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes. The Studios segment was impacted by delayed production schedules, the 2023 US writers' and actors' strikes, and reduced demand from European free-to-air broadcasters. https://lnkd.in/eFYPMgzc
