Two of our longest serving staff members have received awards recognising their dedication and commitment to the hospital at a special ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Bath. The Mayor of Bath, Councillor Michelle O’Doherty, presented the Mayor’s Medal for 50 Years of Service to Loretta Murray and the Mayor’s Badge for 40 Years of Service to Tracy Fishlock. They were joined at the ceremony by RUH Chief Nursing Officer Toni Lynch. Loretta began her career at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (RNHRD) before moving to the RUH as a senior healthcare assistant in our Rheumatology Outpatients team where she supervises a team of care assistants. Tracy has spent all her time at the RUH in the Radiology Department. She started her career as a darkroom technician, then progressed to become a radiography assistant (RDA) before moving on to a call handler role. Massive congratulations to Loretta and Tracy for receiving such special awards and for their fantastic dedication to our patients 😊

RN | Patient-Centered Digital Health | Reduce Risk | Improve Throughput | Improve Outcomes | Enhance Clinician Satisfaction
Bringing Northern and Southern Endoscopy on the Digital Patient Pathway journey has been SUPER rewarding. In our early discussions, I shared with them how digitising their current pathways would transform how they work and that they would start to realise the benefits immediately. They were convinced enough to take the leap and I'm so pleased they did. 🏥 👨⚕️ 👩⚕️ 🖥 📲 #endoscopy #colonoscopy #valuebasedcare #digitalpatientpathways #digitalhealth #digitalpathways #patientexperience #improveoutcomes #patienteducation #topofscopenursing
“With 82% of patients choosing to adopt the digital pathway alongside their care, and more than 91% of patients confirming their appointments via the digital tool - the system has significantly reduced the need for manual intervention and phone calls for our nursing and administrative staff.” Northern and Southern Endoscopy, a leading private day hospital specialising in gastroenterological procedures, has spearheaded a digital patient-focused experience to streamline pre-admission processes. I had a great time attending the International Anesthesia and Critical Care Conference. It was full of new information and ideas that will help improve how we work in healthcare. I learned a lot from the speakers and sessions and can’t wait to use these new ideas in my practice. #Anesthesia #CriticalCare #HealthcareLearning"

This evening I was lucky to attend the St. Luke's wound care, skin, and ostomy conference. As a student nurse and surgical technologist I was nervous I may have bitten off more than I could chew by choosing to attend. To my surprise, I left the conference even more curious and excited to learn. Here are some of my key takeaways: 1- Wound care and prevention is everyone's job. Poor wound management whether a paper cut or an ostomy can mean life or death for your patient. 2- Lifestyle changes and off loading modifications allow small changes to make a significant impact. I also learned that St. Luke's offers a variety of resources for community members for smoking cessation, nutritional counseling, and physical activity. Many of these resources are either free or designed on a financial model which is focused on healing people by eliminating the source of disease rather than in the treatment of symptoms. 3- Icelandic Cod fish grafts are one of the most fascinating modalities for wound treatment I have ever seen. I have seen them applied in the OR, but I did not understand their significance until I was able to see some after photos today. This made me go down a rabbit hole in my thoughts about how every phase of wound care (or healthcare in general) is just a snippet of our patient's experience. I look forward to diving deeper on how patient positioning, dressing application/changes, and evidence based practice can used to help fight the good fight one patient, one wound, and one surgery at a time. #stlukeshealthsystem #woundcare #nursing #healthcare

the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing recently published a research study conducted by Jonathan Vaughn about improving communication during the handoff process from the operating room (OR) to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) in a perioperative setting. The researchers created a standardized multidisciplinary handoff tool that included 25 essential perioperative items to be communicated during the transfer of patient care. The findings indicated a significant improvement in the frequency of complete or near-complete handoffs, as well as enhanced perceptions of communication quality among team members after the tool's implementation. This suggests that structured communication strategies can lead to better patient outcomes. Don't leave handoff to chance, create a standardized tool and ensure consistent usage for better outcomes.

A new paper out from the Perfect-CR study, focusing on the nurse's role in the cardiac rehabilitation (CR) team. Risk factor management for patients with MI can be significantly improved by optimizing the structure and processes of the nurse's work. Components we found to be of central importance included the CR nurse having authorization to adjust the dosage of lipid-lowering and BP medication, having treatment algorithms for such adjustments, having training in counseling methods, and providing continuity in the nurse-patient contact. The results could provide guidance for optimizing nurses' competence and responsibilities within the CR team to improve patient care. Making the most of the nurse's potential in the team to provide the best possible benefits for the patient should be a priority. With Matthias Lidin, Halldóra Michelsen, Emma Hag, Andreas Stomby, Mona Schlyter, Maria Bäck and Emil Hagström. https://lnkd.in/dSQP9rJ5
